Just throwing it out there, is network news a good thing from the point of view of news content and variety? Many local stations around the country don't have their own off peak news services so rely on syndicated news from Utv or Newstalk but this means two news outlets are setting the news agenda for much of the country's local radio stations, is this a good thing?

There was the INN service which left the airwaves in 2008 as far as I know, It's a good idea to have an un-biased network news provider. But then again when I tuned into my local station at midnight last Sat night/Sun morning , there was absolutely no need for a bullettin (which came from Communicorp).

Blame the BAI's ridiculous content rules for why stations even bother with carrying effectively the same bulletin all night. Only advantage to news overnight is when there's something major occuring; or to make people on the night shift feel less lonely (been there, done that).

The BAI agree to anything nowadays. I'm starting to think they never had any power / influence etc. Shame really. Guess they're just a figurehead like RTE now (

Local stations have their own newsroom that do a great job of focussing on local stories

Where the likes of UTV and Newstalk come into play is for the national stuff, the politics, the demos etc, most of which mainly happen in Dublin.
