    Hi All,

I'm doing some reasearch on protein whey. The tried and tested favourite 'ON 100% Whey Gold Standard' whey always pops up as the most popular. Which you can't deny. Even though it does have isolate and concentrate in it. But when you look in to the protein %, quality of whey and process, it seems Ultimate Nutrition (UN) ISO-Sensation 93 comes out trumps. Bit dearer, but you get what you pay for.

Has anyone used ISO sensation 93, and what do you think of it? Taste, quality or gains?
Or do you recommend another quality whey protein?
From what I can see, Myprotein and USN seem to pop up as favourites on here too.

    thanks/Chef.

People on here will recommend the bulk protein powder websites for the price.

    MyProtein
    Bulk Powders
    The Protein Works

As for the ISO Sensation, taste is good, mixability is good and its 93% protein. It's a very good protein product. You mention "gains", but at the end of the day protein is just protein. You're not going to get significant gains off a whey protein powder.

    Thanks Oisin.

Good to hear someone using ISO Sensation. Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.

As for gain, well I was under the impression the more protein you get in you, and the better quality whey protein it is, the more gain you'll see?
I'm trying to lose the belly fat (through running/cycling) but also want to build lean muscle mass (through weights). Maybe I'm wrong there. I was under the impression whey protein is a good place to start, as I know I don't get enough in me daily.
I'm still a tad confused about creatine and it's uses, so staying away from that for now.

Whey protein isolate will have more protein gram for gram than concentrate. Isolate will also contain minimal amounts of lactose and a lot less fat. Isolate will typically be 90%+ protein. Concentrate will range from 70%-80% roughly. There are benefits to taking concentrate over isolate though. As it's less processed, it will contain higher levels of growth factors, CLAs and some other good stuff. So it's up to the individual persons circumstances which protein, or a blend of both, they want to take.

Whey protein, and protein supplements in general, are used as they're handy and cheap forms of increasing your protein intake in your overall diet. Post workout it can aid with recovery. These products, although low in calories, do still contain some calories. So if you're looking to lose some body fat, don't forget to factor them into your overall daily caloric intake.

Interesting about the less processed whey been more beneficial, I didn't know what. Good point. Maybe the UN gold standard is enough for me. But then, I'm thinking protein intake. Which although the UN gold standard is cheaper, you have to take more of it to get your daily protein quota. 30g of protein in one ISO sensation portion is not to be sniffed at! :)

Yep. I'm having to keep an eye on my daily caloric intake alright. I'm averaging 2000-2500 kcal a day. I don't eat right all the time, in particular non-regular times. I could go for hours without eating and then stuff my face with too much in one go. And don't get enough protein in me (for the 1g to 1lb rule), even though I only eat fish, chicken, turkey, etc... And I understand protein/cal ratio is about 1:4.
So I'm thinking the protein shakes will be a good start to balance things out, as long as I cut down on the snacks and crap food.

I may research protein bars too for them quick hunger moments on the go when a shake can't be done.
