have an outhouse with an open door, due to machinery moving in and out constantly opening and closing the door doesn't suit

the swallows have figured out it is ideal for nesting in, trouble is they S*hit everywhere

any idea on how to keep them out?

The swallows like high places to nest. I suppose this is a barn or similar with high ceilings?
There isn't much you can do now I think that they've already nested but after they go you can attach balloons to string and hang them close to the old nest, this will irritate the birds and stop them from nesting there again.

They keep the barn from being hit by lightning - old farmers tale :D

Hope this isn't off topic but does anyone have idea how long swallows stay in a nest? There's one near me and my car is being plastered with droppings everyday.

All summer if the weather and the nest is good. They might have more than one brood.

I was afraid of that. Ah well, it's good luck apparently.
