Does a student who fails maths in the LC fail their LC

Hi, I am just wondering if the rule still exists that if a student fails Maths in their LC, then they fail their whole LC.

Also, can a student who has chosen to do ordinary level maths for the LC, switch to foundation on the day of the exam?

Unless they also fail every other subject, no. The days of failing one subject = failing the entire thing is long gone. It can be quite limiting however.

Been awhile since I did my LC but back in 2002 people could switch on the day, I assume that's still the case.

No , in fact I knew a person who failed maths but still got in to their NUI arts degree, so as long as maths isn't a requirement for their course it should be ok. Used to be you needed English, Irish, Maths, and a European language to matriculate.

You can change on the day of the exam, no problem at all with that.

Just be careful that OL isn't a requirement for a course that you may be interested in.

check that maths isnt an entry requirement for the college you want to go to,then check its not an entry requirement for the course you want. a pass in maths regardless of what level is needed for alot of courses.also alot of courses need 6passes regardless of subjects

you still get the 'leaving cert' but maths will be recorded on it as a fail. The old thing of 5 passes or whatever is gone.

Yes, it depends. For example, for my course (B Ed), I know a person who failed HL maths... and yes they'd to repeat even though they got the points for the course. It's a requirement to get at least a C I believe in OL maths for the B.Ed programme. I have to say I agree with this though... we do have to teach the subject you have to pass it at least.
