Apologies if this has been posted, a quick scan of the forum said no but I could be mistaken. Anyway, in Russian here, but a Google Translate does the job. Also Eurosport article here. Interesting timing, am curious to see if there'll be any fall-out! Also, Shane Stokes on Twitter:
My Secret Pro guess was DM - guess that looks possible now

I would guess he's the former GT winner who tripped the BP, given the timing of this announcement.

The Captain will have to put a plaque on the wall now. :)

He was once questioned for blood doping.

No sanction ever came about from it though.

Oh, I'm aware of that! I meant more that I'd be interested to see if we get any form of admission re: any previous allegations now that he's retired, or more so if he'd talk in any way freely about Rabobank's rather questionable past. Can't see it happening but am curious!

Bump! So that was a very quietly-handled ban doled out by the UCI, see here. Knew there was something very, very questionable about the circumstances of his retirement.

Reflects badly on UCI that this was kept quiet!

Esp as Jonathan Tiernan Locke publicly still in limbo despite no ban/sanction yet!

I am really, really trying to believe that Cookson is going to change things. I know these bans weren't handed out during his time as president of the UCI, but one of the first things he should have done was publicly air as much of the dirty laundry as possible. Then we might have some faith in him, and the UCI as an organisation, for the future. :/

On the back of today's news, Shane Stokes just tweeted the following:
UCI told me today that only big doping cases will be announced in future; Menchov not considered big as he had retired. All other cases will just appear on that doping list, which journos will have to continuously check themselves. That's not transparency, that's PR

Anyone else losing faith in the Cookson regime rather rapidly? I am absolutely gobsmacked by this..

EDIT: Sporza seem to confirm this new UCI policy, which is a serious shame.

So the last man standing from the 2010 TDF podium is...Andy Schleck.

    OK then.

Sadly, there wasn't much faith to lose to begin with. And Cookson getting the job was always more about getting rid of McQuaid than anything else.
