Pirate Advertising Arrrrrgh!

I'm somebody who used to pirate quite a lot of stuff from the internet. However, I've recently discovered Netflix and I think that paying the €7 a month is a lot easier than pirating.

My question is this; do you think companies should advertise towards people who pirate? Pointing out how much easier it is to pay a small monthly fee might convince some people to pay for the stuff that they would otherwise download.

I know piracy has been done a million times on here but do you think the mega corporations should acknowledge the problem in a more positive way, rather than just simply trying to wipe it out?

Piracy = free | Netflix = not free

    Piracy wins.

I agree, I have also recently discovered Netfix and its a lot handier then trying to pirate. Been gorging recently on seasons 3+4 of breaking bad, much happier streaming them from Netflix. Well worth the €7.

I can log onto netflix and not have to wait to download. For €7 a month I think it's worth not having to wait the 15 minutes for a film to download.

I think if the success of file locker websites prove anything, it's that a lot of people who pirate are willing to pay something, but either the product is more expensive that it is worth to people, or the product is only legally available in the most inconvenient way possible. More often than not, it is the latter.

Many websites let you stream media for free.

I've often wondered if that's you in your profile picture. If not who is it?

Netflix isn't some kind of alternative to pirating. Their catalogue is measly.

Netflix and most streaming is useless to us that are dependent on mobile broadband for our internet access. It's far easier for us to pirate. However, if I had proper bb, I'd use Netflix without a problem. But seeing as eircom will never give us proper bb here, all I can say is Arrrrrrrr :D

The yank catalogue is better, not sure how my mate did it but he has that instead of the irish uk one.

Anyway your right to a degree op. Since I gave spotify a go ive ripped a lot less music.

You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again! Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences!

I already use a proxy and while the US Netflix isn't as empty as the Irish one, you still get through it fairly quickly if you watch a lot of shows and movies.

There's no such thing as waiting 15 mins for piracy these days, loads of sites offer pretty much instant streaming.

I have Netflix but it's pretty underwhelming, even the US catalog isn't that good.

I wouldn't mind paying for it. Assuming it was worth it to me.

I think the issue is (I prefer TV shows to movies, usually) that a lot of the stuff is owned by different companies and aren't always going to be on Netflix. Whereas pirating sites or streaming (illegal ones) sites, just put up whatever.

Case in point: I know that it's like that for the sports channels here. That's why I'd rather just watch a three hour wrestling show once a week online, streaming it instead of paying for Sky Sports and the 27 euro or whatever.
If they said "pay a tener a month" for wrestling, I'd enjoy it.

But I think with streaming from Netflix is that it's just a bad selection for me so it's not worth it.
