    Hi all
my bike takes italian thread 70 x 108mm bottom brackets. These are extremely difficult to buy !!! I came across what looked like bottom bracket sleeves somewhere that you can fit into your bike and they convert the casing to a more easily available bb size. Anyone know of if this could be done on a colnago to open up my BB options.

    Thanks

While I know you can get sleeves to convert press fit bottom brackets, like BB30, to a standard English thread one, I've never come across one to convert Italian thread to English thread. I'm not even sure if it's possible, but I'm open to correction on that.

What bottom bracket are you looking for/using? I've never noticed a price difference myself.

    Hi Vladimir
    its a 70x108mm ISIS Italian thread !!!
I bought online from germany last sept one of these :
KCNC Scandium Race Lite ISIS Innenlager gold/ITA 70x108 €75

It's gone already so with a sportif coming up i had to buy another one but I'd really like to get some other make or convert my bike to take something else !!

I've never came across a sleeve for this conversion. It would only be 2mm thick and would also have to convert the left hand thread on the drive side to a right hand thread.
What b/b are you looking for ?.

What I've done is get an English-threaded BB shell. Mill off about 1mm from the outside. Then bored out the Italian BB by just enough for a tight 0.05mm interference fit. Then use a hydraulic-press to push it in. Tacked a couple spots of brass on the inside to hold it in place. Mill 1mm off both ends and faced the new English-threaded BB.

If you've got the equipment, it shouldn't take more than 30-minutes

Ah, OK. I think part of your problem is that Isis isn't used that much any more on road bikes, which may make sourcing a replacement difficult. The only compatible one I could find on Chain Reaction is €112!

Even €75 is a very hefty price to pay for a bottom bracket.

The way I see it you've three options:

    1. Continue with the expensive Isis BBs.

    2. Go milling your frame, as Lumen suggests. (gulp!)

    3. Consider the one time expense of moving over to a crankset with cheaper and more widely available bottom brackets. For example, Shimano BBs are widely available in Italian thread and are only €30

If it were me, I'd scour the internet looking for cheap Isis BBs and if that fails then go myself a new crankset.
