For a big bus it fairly flies...can slalom too, just...

    125mph from a 4.6 V8! :D

The 2006–present Police Interceptors are electronically limited to 140 mph (225 km/h) due to critical driveline speed limitations. (The weight of the vehicle with law-enforcement equipment on-board makes it highly unlikely the vehicle could ever reach speeds approaching this figure. However, a flat-out figure of 125 mph is the best that could be expected with the 4.6 modular V8

....my mother has one, in Georgia. It's a boat. A lovely boat, but it's still a boat. ..

American cars are ridiculously oversized. They are absolute tanks.

    I can't stand them!

In all versions, Crown Vic, PI, Mercury Marquis and Lincoln Towncar (different body'), that car floats around like a whale.

Speaking as someone who actually owned one (ex police unit) They are probably somewhere middling in terms of handling and performance as to the variation of descriptions of them here. Yes they have a 4.6l V8, but that engine has been around since the dawn of time and in 16 valve form (the one I had) it's no slouch but definitely not fast. My levin would beat it in a straight line. However it did make a wonderful noise :D. In terms of handling, it's much better than you would think considering it had a live rear axel (with LSD) and a ladder chassis. You could chuck it about a bit and it was surprisingly direct and fun but softly sprung for comfort.

Before we got rid of Sky I used to always love watching Cops on whatever station it would be on back then. But my favorite part was hearing the V8 from those Chevy Impala/Caprice or Crown Vics when the cop would put his foot to the floor

I love Crown Vics. Would love an ex police interceptor one.

looks to be able to shift its weight pretty good in that video, even for 250hp in a 2 ton car. you would think they would get abit more power out of the big engine

I have a soft spot for them I have to admit. I've had them on a few trips to the states. They are the furthest things from fast and the standard ones don't make a nice V8 noise(the Police interceptors do though) but they aren't too bad on the road at all, very far from the worst handling car I've driven.

I like that they are(where, production has finally ended) the last 'real' American car, i.e live rear axle, big lazy V8, column shift, front bench seat etc so I'll miss them TBH.

I actually saw one a couple of weeks ago in Dublin in full NYPD get up.

Particular fun was had when 8 of us went to Vegas for my stag weekend and we rented 2 Mercury grand marques.....That weekend brought new meaning to the sentiment that there is no faster or more fun car then a rental:eek:

And a Crown Vic I had over Christmas just gone....with questionable alloys!

Very cool ND. Just wondering if you rented that crown vic at christmas and what company did you rent it from (if you don't mind me asking). I'm going in the summer and will be renting this time instead of buying. Every rental company I've been onto, even though they have crown vics and grand marques on their list online, try to recommend different cars:confused::(

IMO I think ford somewhat ruined them when they changed to a 4 speed auto. Three speed FTW in a car like that:D:p

I had one of those for a week in NJ last year, It was a lovely big boat of a thing! Felt fairly quick for the size of it too.

It was Dollar I'm nearly sure. But they may not have them any more as the one I got was well used(almost 50k on the clock which is a lot for a rental) and they have been out of production for over a year now IIRC so any that are left are at the end of their life..if they actually have any left at all now.
That why I took the opertunaty to take that one at Christmas.

One thing though, they are listed as a 'premium' car with most rental companies so if you do get one, haggle with them over the price. I had booked a premium car and they said I was getting the crown vic(which I didn't mind) but I asked why they were trying to charge me a premium rate for a 15 year old taxi......A cheaper rate was quickly agreed.:D
