got a semi blocked toilet and wondering how to unblock it

its been getting worse and worse for the last few weeks and I want to sort it out before it blocks solid

I don't think anything went down it, its just a build up directly behind the U bend

tried the coathanger trick but didn't help

its an upstairs toilet and I think its the 3ft pipe that goes from the toilet to outside is all that is blocked but not 100% sure

anyone got any bright ideas on how to clear it?

tried the drain bomb too but that hasn't sorted it out either

    I had this problem recently..

Is your bath also draining slowly? In my case it was, so I put a few inches of water in it, then used a plunger on it like crazy. After about 30 seconds there was "whoosh" from the toilet as the blockage was shifted

This happened me last year, tried everything but no luck.. Then I read on google that if you put Fairy washing-up liquid in the toilet bowl and leave over night it should do the trick cos it makes the pipe really slippy and it just slides away.

I thought it wouldn't work, and in my case which is a bit different to yours, the water in my bowl was up at the top of the bowl, so i put a load of washing up liquid in it at night, and the next day at about lunch time I heard a big whoosh and it was gone...

So if I was you I'd put washing up liquid in it, leave for 12-24 hours (as long as you have a 2nd toilet) and maybe flush it and repeat if necessary!

Have you tried a plunger (down the toilet bowl); homer911 used his on the bath?

Post a picture of the waste pipe coming from the toilet and how it enters the stack. Was the toilet moved to a different location at any point in time?

If the stack isn't blocked, the waste pipe coming from the toilet is either at too much or too little of an angle, should be a drop of 25mm/metre

I didnt try the toilet bowl as i didnt have a plunger big enough, and I was afraid of what might splash up at me! As the bath was using the same waste pipe, and the blockage was below the join, it seemed to make sense..

Stick a mop down the toilet and twist it into a ball and use like a plunger, I learned this trick years ago and it works everytime! Of course you will have to throw out the mop when your finished :)

As a ex Plumber as I have not worked at Plumbing for a very long time, The mop will work, but you have to be quite sure nothing was dropped down the loo by a young child as it will need more work as said a photo of the outside stack and any more info on the position.

    +1, works everytime,
I put the mop inside a bin bag, twist bag up around the handle, and second bin bag or bucket to put it into when done to take outside.
    Kids+toilet paper+ forgeting to flush:)
