    Hi

I am seriously considering replacing my daily use of a notepad for business meeting notes with a tablet.
Primarily I want to take handwritten notes (not keyboard), have them converted to editable text and allow me to including drawings, mind maps etc...

There is a variety of apps for Android that seem to have pros and cons e.g. Evernote.

However, I am wondering anyone on here who has made this transition and how they have really gotten on? Having last tried this with a Newton back in the early 90s I am wondering if the tech is really there now?

I've a Note 10.1 and have kind of done what you want. There's an app called Papyrus (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.projectpapyrus&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zdGVhZGZhc3Rpbm5vdmF0aW9uLmFuZHJvaWQucHJvamVjdHBhcHlydXMiXQ..) that allows you to write notes as if it was a notepad. But it doesn't convert to typed text. I find that the handiest.
    Pros for me are
    • I can write on it as easy as a notepdad
    • I can create a new note without going through 20 menu options.
    • It backs up the notes to dropbox as PDFs if you want (paid version)

You can use other apps that convert as you type but if you're in a meeting you don't really need to be checking your tablet to make sure that it's converting the text 100%. It'll miss some words. For me I need something I can scribble on and then if I want to later on I can spend time converting it to typewritten text. I never do though.

We had a thread on this a few weeks back, details here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056933520

I'll just throw back on my Note 10.1 Fanboy hat and share some of my experiences.

I started off trying to use an iPad with the likes of Evernote and it just wasn't worth it. You ended up pecking everything out with the virtual keyboard, defeating the purpose of the pen (which, as I have said before, is akin to writing with the eraser end of a pencil).

Last December, I got the Galaxy Note 10.1 and it really does everything I want. As you can see from that thread linked above, the handwriting recognition is excellent. Plus, you can annotate, add pictures and drawings and even maps.

I would have no hesitation recommending the Note 10.1 for meetings and the like.

I also have a note 10.1 but only for my own amusement :D
    Excellent tablet.

    Ordered now so thanks again!

Wonder if you would also recommend a neat cover and do you use an screen protector on yours?

Papyrus works quite well on the GS3 too. But I can see how the s-pen would give better control, as the pen I have is an older one I used with the ipad and it is exactly like writing with the eraser end of a pencil, as stated above.

I'd go for a Note 10.1 hands-down over a netbook/laptop any day. The only thing that's making me hang onto my ipad is that it has VGA output which I need for projectors.

Amazed at the quality of the handwriting recognition. Using Papyrus and Drop box for syncing.

Any other great apps for the Pen that you'd recommend?
