Hi folks, in the hunt for 1st road bike. Willing to spend to €1000 for a decent bike. Would prefer new if possible but won't say no to 2nd hand.
Just want to know which brand's are a safe bet for a 1st off road bike, had my eye on something like this but after reading about specs I'm having doubts.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

If your willing to spend €1000 then there are better spec'd bikes you could buy, this for example > http://www.kearneycycles.com/galway-bicycles-details.php?act=viewProd&productId=743

Full carbon frameset, (sub 1.5kg frameset) with a full tiagra groupset and near bombproof decathalon branded wheels.

Total weight it 8.9kg, which is bloody impressive for a bike at that price point and you could drop that dramatically with a groupset and wheel upgrade in the future (if needed/wanted).

Same setup as above but Aluminium frame instead of carbon and only 0.5kg heavier.

Both are the best value for money you are likely to find in carbon or aluminium.

How reliable are Giant as a bike? Haven't seen to many people riding them around here. Alot of Lappierre, Specialized and Trek I've seen. To be honest I'm not really considering carbon as a first bike as its a wee bit overkill for a beginner.

Giant are as reliable as it gets. Biggest bike company in the world, and they make most of the "fancy" branded carbon bike frames from european companies.

Right back with an update, went to me LBS and listed out the usual's. He then pointed me in the direction of one of these : http://www.cube.eu/en/road/road-race/peloton/
Anyone had any experience on one of these? Really like this bike and fits the budget but just wanna hear what people think of it before ordering.
