Ben Gilroy, Direct Democracy Ireland and Freemen

I came across this video this morning on reddit:

Basically the video is a clip of Ben Gilroy on primetime denying he is a freeman and then there is a clip of him talking about how laws and statutes don't apply to him. This sounds like dangerous nonsense to me and not the type of thing potential legislators should believe or hide from the public, if he said this to people during the by election I doubt he would have done as well? Do DDI believe this to? Are DDI freemen?

What is this lad on? Can anyone explain this freeman stuff to me?

He's not a prolifer either. It's just coincidental that he is supported by the Christian Solidarity Party and speaks on pro life platforms

Ideally if direct democracy means what it's supposed to mean, what he believes in would be largely irrelevant to the policies implemented by his government, so does it really matter?

If the laws/responsibilities of an individual to society don't exist then neither do the rights of a citizen.

If this guy thinks he can disassociate himself from the duties of a citizen whilst receiving the safety of the state then he's delusional. Laws exist to protect as much as to punish.

Has it? TBH I don't know much about it, had a look at the thread there and a lot of it was he said she said type stuff but the video seems fairly comprehensive, its his own words like

Its a bit sad really because more democracy is a good idea but Gilroy and the freemen seem to have ruined the idea.

Actually scary to see how many people voted for him in the meath by election. People can be so gullible/stupid. But i suppose if sinn fein can get seats then who knowes how many of gilroys lot could. I wish people would do a bit of research before voting.
