In light of Eurovision result was Enda Kenny right about "our special case" status??

Does Ireland's ranking in Eurovision prove Enda Kenny's statement to be fatefully correct and right that we are indeed " a special case ".I feel sorry for those that stayed in tonight to maybe save a few quid instead of going out in the hope of seeing some Irish pride restored through that old favourite ability of ours to sing a meaningful song and get appreciation for it on a national scale and a sense of validation and achievement despite be it on a small scale :)Surely the humiliation of the nation will not be complete until we become the only country to have won 7 times and finished last the same number. If this is what were striving for I say give Jedward a five year contract or maybe even bosco or zig n zag ago??

    ".
I feel sorry for those that stayed in tonight to maybe save a few quid instead of going out in the hope of seeing some Irish pride restored through that old favourite ability of ours to sing a meaningful song.

I'm finding it hard to match the above with the Eurovision event......

Not really sure what you're babbling on about O.P but Ireland came last because it was a shít song/performance and Enda K is a wánker. Does that help?

It just seems that with Dail Eireann coffers and politics in disarray, the Irish rugby team in somewhat of a shambles or "transitional" period and Irish soccer leaving alot to be desired ...where are Irish people meant to look for some reassurance and national comfort and pride when even
our sense of self image as a country has deteriorated so much as to now consistently find ourselves below countries like the UK ,Romania and all the eastern Europeans in an event that we once used to champion??are we not making ourselves a laughing stock by even choosing to remain in this once proud tradition for our country??

The reason we didn't get many points wasn't because of the song, it was because the dude didn't move around the stage. Although, he probably couldn't move with all that leather on.

Or because he was terrible in general?

Au contraire Mr.Stuffins au contraire!!merely making a point about leadership in this country or lack thereof ....is there no end to the onslaught of all Europeans defecating on us....if we had any kind of pride left we would not continue to represent ourselves so poorly ??

Knew someone would equate Eurovision with the economy somehow. Knew it.

The reason ourselves and the UK repeatedly do sh!t in the Eurovision is because as islands we have no bloc except ourselves. Everyone knows Eurovision is no longer a performance contest as much as a "which of our neighbors is our favourite?" exercise. It has been ever since f*cking televoting was introduced.

Tonight's Irish entry wasn't great but it definitely deserved to be fairly f*cking far from last place. Had we been a landlocked former Soviet Republic it would have been. Simple as.

Unless you're proposing we move the island, I don't immediately see anything anyone can do about this. We could have sent out U2 and still finished last FFS. To quote Father Ted, "This competition... Is a sham! And a fraud! And a sh... Sham!!!!!"

I beg to differ. I doubt that countries vote for their neighbours because they particularly like them. I am sure a lot of it is that you have people living in different places to where they actually come from, in much the same way as you have lots of Irish in England.

Surely all the better for our failing economy that we won't be paying millions to host it next year as winners? I doubt it draws in the tourists apart from the competitor's entourage.

Our song was ****e, even by Eurovision standards and that is all there was to it. You know things are bad when the UK with a huge Irish vote are only giving us 1 point.

I don't even bother to hear the Eurovision song most years. I haven't heard what we entered in it this year and I only heard Jedward the year they did it because they were unavoidable.

Yes, I agree with you OP. We came last and we always will when we have a pair of pussies like Gilmore and Kenny running the place. Men like those are happy to come last so long as they are included and don't have to answer difficult questions.

Would be nice to know what Mr Kenny actually said, in the OP, but maybe that's asking too much.

    p. s. Who is Enda Kenny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭Liamalone

pps Eurovision is that ****e I never even knew it was on til Wednesday this week. Just kill it.

I can already hear the leaving cert class of 2030 (maybe 2020) asking the same question.

Don't think that answers my question tbh, does he play for City?

Why people still watch or care about this irrelevant tripe is beyond me. We should just nominate "My Lovely Horse" every year and be done with it.

    We came last. That's brilliant.

It's a funny thing how Irish people and even the Irish media are constantly looking for self confirmation.
'Isn't it great how well you're man is doing over there?' That's what the gf said about Graham Norton yesterday and then she harped on about some Terry Wogan and how he is also Irish and bladibla.
You Irish are very unique and very likeable and also pretty cool. There is nothing wrong with ye quite the opposite and the whole world knows about ye and likes ye.
Why do you need constant affirmation of that? Do you think yourself you're useless?

The only thing left to do for next year is to send the reanimated corpse of johny logan.

He just needs to be defrosted and given a kick up the hole to start him off. He's stored in freezer section of his local Supervalue.

People in Europe won't vote for Ireland because we are seen as a country of lick arse's. The way we have embraced austerity here without protest must sicken other struggling nations. Ireland is been held up as the poster boy for cutbacks whilst claiming we are the special ones. 5 votes from Europe in a song contest should show us how special we really are.

We need to invade some country, declare peace with them, and then maybe in 20 years we might get some 12 points.

    So, who'll be first?
