I think its only a preventative but it certainly will do no harm. Have you dosed with washing powder?

I put it in to the water trough when they are out on grass.I still get an odd one with bloat as they prob drink from one of the many puddles of water rather than go to the trough. When they get bloat i give them linseed oil and a shot of pen and strep in the linseed oil and put it back their throat. The bloat is gone with in 5 mins.Others might have a different method but that works for me.

My partners son doses then with a litre of cheap cooking oil, the bloat is causing by the fermenting of the grass and makes loads of little bubbles like foam, the oil breaks it down.

The other way was stabbing it with a big syringe needle, I don't know where exactly though

For some reason, if you stick them once they seem to have a reoccurrence. Interesting the linseed oil and PenStrep method, though. Will try if needed in the future, Osnonds used to sell a product called Osmonds Cattle Oils, which worked well, I usually included a good squirt of washing up liquid as well. Not sure they still market it however.
