RTE director general Noel Curran has insisted the station must retain its share of public funding, and defended plans to charge for online content overseas.

He said if RTE's public funding is cut further it would be unable to do the "unique things that it does", and would be pushed "more and more down a commercial routes"

Maybe if they stopped overpaying stars which are still overpaid after cuts.
