Looking at putting up a basic yard for loading cattle on an out farm.

Have railway girdrs the could use for uprights and then get 4" tubing to use as dividers or 4x2's

Also looking at buiding walls with either 6inch blocks on flat or with 9" cavity blocks.

What would ye think is best option considering price and longevity?

4" tubing would be overkill 2" would be ok if done right and 3" if you want to go to extremes. Thats all presuming your u are using them on divisions or even a top rail over the wall. Don t use cavity blocks they have no strenght if they get a good shove by a pen of cattle. 6" on the flat is the only job

I built one last year from esb poles, notched them with the skil saw and used a blast of 8' ledgers from scaffolding as the cross bars. Shale floor. Drove the uprights with a post driver. The ledgers cost €3 each. The shale €80 a load and I had gathered up the poles from doing a favour for a poling contractor for the esb. I had to put a concrete floor under the crush and a low wall to retain one side. Took a full load costing €550. Made the head gate and all other gates from the ledgers. Total cost €1550 + my own time (and the auld lads, but that don't count, coz mine never did when I was helping him). I must take a few photos and put them up. It is rough and ready but very functional and they can be built for smallish money.

I can handle 30-35 sucklers in it no hassle.
