Laser treatment

A few years ago I had the money put aside and was ready to go do it, when I allowed my stupid twit of a father in law talk me out of it. He said because I was only borderline, that it wasn't worth all the risks. For me, its a binary thing. Either you need glasses or you don't and I need glasses, and I need glasses. However, on the risks, the risks being, dry eyes, problems driving at night etc, has anyone who has had the treatment had any of these side effects?

Please don't post with a "my brothers, sisters, aunts son had it done" type of story. Im just looking for personal experiences.

Had Lasek two months ago at the Wellington Clinic.
Had zero side affects, not even temporarily. Vision is 20/20. Easy and painless - life is the same, just without glasses.
My prescription before surgery was -2.15.

I actually just had one eye done as this will mean I never need reading glasses. This is called monovision. Love it but apparently it's not for everyone.

My mother has monovision but the other way round. She has one contact lens for reading, and uses her regular eye for distance. Why didn't I get that gene?

It doesn't matter if your "borderline", you can still have treatment.

I had LASIK done in 2007 and LASEK done in 2011. I was BLIND when i had it done and I have 20/20 vision now. I had it done with Optical Express and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. PM me for more info if you like :)

I had lasek this time last year but I had a strong prescription (-6) and the only side effects I’ve experienced is that when I’m tired at work (computer) my eyes feel very tired! More so than when I used to wear glasses. My night vision is a fraction less clearer too but so tiny a change that it only annoys me when I think about it at night.

The benefits far and away out number these small annoyances.

It’s one of the best things I’ve done to be honest. I’ve been on holidays a number of times since and it’s such a feeling not to bother with glasses/contacts at the beach et.

Best advice is to talk to as many people/experts on the topic and decide for yourself if it's something for you.

I had LASIK done in March with Prof. Michael O' Keefe in the Mater. Can't recommend him highly enough. The whole team there are great, make u feel very relaxed about the whole thing.
As for side effects, I have dry eyes when I first wake up in the morning but the drops I was given relieve this straight away and I'm fine for the rest of the day. I had to use the drops maybe three times a day for the first month.
It really is the best thing I've ever done, two months on and I still get so excited when I can see something I couldn't before! If you've any other questions let me know!

The dry eyes may eventually pass too. I was using drops for a while after I had my eyes done but now I never do. They get a bit dry if I'm tired or in a warm room but that's probably fairly common for everyone (lasered eyes or not).

You won't know yourself after you've had it done! It's been one of the most liberating experiences in my life not having to depend on glasses and contacts (my sight was so bad I genuinely worried all the time about something happening my glasses or running out of contacts etc). I really couldn't recommend it highly enough! :D

I was -5.5 and -5.75 before I had LASIK 6 weeks ago. I can see everything now, it's great! No pain, no healing really just a bit of dryness in the mornings and if I'm on the computer for a long time.
