GPU related problem

Lads im having issues with my new build. System powers on but there is no video and the GPU fans aren't spinning. It's a Gigabyte 7950. I've tried breadboarding but the issue remained. All cables are in all right. I have it powered by a single PCIe cable with both 6+2 and 8 pin.

Does it sound like I should RMA or does anyone have any ideas?

edit: I should add that I don't know anyone with a graphics card or computer capable of testing this one so that idea is out

Could you try a different PCIe on your mobo?

good suggestion but unfortunately the build is in a prodigy so it wont fit on the second slot

Ah OK. Not to state the obvious, but did you disable the on board mobo graphics?

Caused me to download the RMA the first time I got one with onboard graphics before I thought of it :)

Where are you based in case anyone here is nearby & willing to try it in their machine?

Ah ok, I'm in Wicklow so not much use to you. Have you tried a different lead from the GPU to monitor?

yeah i tried both hdmi and dvi cables. the monitor just says 'entering power saving mode' or something to that effect as soon as i hook it up to the graphics card.

the card does seem quite loose in the slot rather than clipping in properly but its stays that way no matter what

so i tried the other pci slot, same problem

Pity you can't try in another machine..

i just bought a cheapo graphics card on adverts and thats not working in either slot. so no power getting to the pcie slots is all i can get from that

Sounds like the board to me indough, unless the PSU is faulty and not outputting enough juice.

yeah im thinking the same now. i was thinking about trying another 20 pin power cable just to eliminate that possibility first but i doubt the fans and such would be working if that was the problem

Try jump the 24-pin, with a couple of fans connected to a molex or something. That will at least tell you if the PSU is capable of powering something.

oh there is definitely power coming from it all right, i have fans running off the cpu fan header and the pump is making sounds, but there appears to be no power to the pci slots. the card i tried today is an old one which is powered entirely by the pci bus power and still nothing. i can seeit being a bloody nightmare if i have to rma that board with shuttle considering the way i bought it
