Question about DDR2/DDR3 compatibility

Hi

I'm thinking of buying this to upgrade my pc from 4 to 8gb.

I have an MSI P965 Platinum mainboard which I know is only compatible with DDR3 up to 4GB and DDR2 up to 8GB, so my question is, in the case of adding 8GB of DDR3, will it simply run it all at DDR2 speeds or only use half?

DDR3 will not work with that board only DDR2
8GB DDR2-667 or 4GB DDR2-800

Damn. Know anywhere selling DDR2 cheap? It all seems to be more expensive than DDr3 atm.

You could have a look on adverts.ie for second hand ram

DDR2 is a lot more expensive, and wont be getting any cheaper.

Hah. hard to believe I built this thing with future proofing in mind. Guess it's time for a more substantial upgrade.
