Securing Eircom Phoneline

    Hi all,

I'm hoping you might be able to help.

I've recently got an Eircom Phonewatch alarm system installed in my house. When the engineer was installing the alarm he advised me that my weakest security point now in the house is the plastic "eircom" box positioned at the front of the house (beside the esb & gas boxes).

He recommended that I get a more security stainless steel cover/box fitted around or over the existing eircom box.

Can anyone advise a stainless steel fabricator in East Cork who might be able to put something together for me?

Also, is this the best way to go or has anyone done anything else to make their phone line connection more secure from unnecessary attention.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Remove the box, re-route your eircom feed out of sight behind it then refit the box with a dummy cable through it. Anyone who tampers with it is unlikely to suspect where the real cable is going.

Slim is right... it will cost a fair bit to get a protection cover fabricated. It would be cheaper to reroute the cable altogether. fabrication depending on size would be anything from fifty to seventy euro minimum due to materials and labour.

Any pic of it... we might be able to recommend another solution if we knew what it looked like.

There is the possibility that those alarm box cages that can be got for about €20 might be the right size to bolt over the eircom box?

Eircom phone watch used to supply a plate that was specifically made to fit over the etu box.
they also provided a security screw driver(screwlok) to allow the home owner to access it
