Hey Guys, currently looking at a 08 320d with 50k miles on it (diesel). Lovely motor with leather heated seats and M sport finish. Price around 18.8k.

Just wondering do you think it is worth paying the extra for the 08 model and making savings on the cheaper tax or just go for a nice 07 model...presumably a lot cheaper but pay the extra tax?

    Thanks for any replies

If the 07 is the 163bhp model I'd stick with that one. Not worth upgrading to the 177bhp.

That's a fairly hefty asking price for a 2008, is it from a main BMW dealer with the two year warranty?

Remember that from September 2007 these cars got the newer N47 engine (177bhp) which is known for having timing chain problems on some cars.

Motor tax is relevant to the difference in purchase price between a 2007 model and 2008 model. Remember that cheap motor tax will not be around forever and the gap is getting smaller so don't expect the premium difference in resale value of the 2008 to be as wide in future years.

Ya its from a main bwm dealer with the 2 year warranty. If im paying that kind of cash would prob prefer it came with that warranty. Going to have a look at a few 2007 models now too i think...

Well that's a debatable can of worms

Spectacular...off topic, irrelevant and wrong...it's hard to improve upon :)

As for the OP, evaluate the difference between the asking price and the tax...don't fall in the category of people who spent thousands in order to save 400-500 euro/year in tax!
