I am looking for some advice from an independent financial advisor and have been in touch with http://moneyadviser.ie regarding investing/savings of a substantial amount of money.

The guy i spoke to seems keen, and i have had good responses and communication from him. (i live abroad btw)

Anyone here got any information on dealings with them? Or, any other recommendations?

    Thanks.

Never used them nor heard anything about them. Generally speaking a fee based advisor is better than a commission based advisor as you should get a more independant service.

Saying that, your situation may be a bit more complicated than the average punters as you mention you live abroad. I doubt these guys can give advice on that, so you may also need tax advice in both Ireland and where you live. Could be lots of complications depending on your resident / ordinary residence etc.

    Thanks for the reply Fitz,

This IFA is registered and fee based. I am living abroad but the money currently resides in my account under an irish address, so is subject to, and paying DIRT tax.

Hi Fitz123, I have seen their website before. They claim to be independent. Under Irish Law to be independent the office must have access to almost the entire market of banks and insurance companies AND offer to work for NO commission at all; just a fee. Unless he is doing that, he is not independent. Very few financial offices are genuinely independent in that respect.

    Totally fee based.

€600 to draw up an investment policy (is this about the going rate?)

.. i have chatted a few times with the main man, Bob Quinn, We've also had a couple of skype sessions and a meeting is arranged for when i return to Ireland.

Pretty happy with the service so far. He seems to have put a fair bit a time into looking at at some guidance notes for me and still no money has changed hands.

Sounds reasonable to me; remember you get what you pay for in this life. The cheapest advice is often the worst! You should ask him how will your investment be monitored for future advice from his office with you being in USA. Hope it works out well for you...
