    Hi,

Would be interested in opinions on the best anti-theft / phone locator app out there for an unrooted phone (just got HTC One last week - not willing to root just yet)

"Airdroid" looked like it was the one for me but it requires root permissions for screenshots.
Used to use "Lookout" on a rooted SGS & it did the job although I found it drained the battery

Ideally it should be able to locate my phone, take camera shots remotely and be able to wipe data / lockup.

I found cerberus to be good simply because it taks and emails a photo when someone tries to unloxk the phone. In the end, a phone reset will dump any theft protection unless it is baked into a custom ROM.

--Correction, Theft aware is good if it your phone is rooted.

Although I think it is now Avast

    Lookout security is my choice.

flare setting sends GPS co-ords if the battery is nearly dead so you can track its last location even if its off/dead.

emails you the photo from front camera after 3 wrong pin attempts

    Scans all apps before installing

has tracking features online etc too and all for free.

I haven't seen any issues with battery draining though. How long is it since you used it?

I have Prey Project, never had to activate it though, which is good.

would prefer if there was an option to just take a photo any time as the phone might be just lost

battery drain was about 6 months ago but it was on an SGS1 which wasn't great on battery anyway

What do you mean by anytime?

as in every time an incorrect pin is entered or do you want to take photos remotely?

taking a photo everytime an incorrect pin is entered would be a horrible waste on battery and data etc especially on a night out

    Nothing to do with PINs
Just the ability to go onto a website (or send a text) and have the phone take a photo and email it to you.

Ok it might be in the thief's pocket at the time but other times it might give a clue to the phone's whereabouts or who the thief is.

Cerberus will allow you to do that from the website, and record using the mic (may require root, not sure).

You can take a picture, call the phone, record audio, send an alarm, take video, take screenshots, wipe, reboot, track and lots more

I dont have root and I can do all the above so far with a number of different devices

What I do have is 3 different Sony phones and they all give grief with connecting to Cerberus - any other devices (Non Sony) I have on my Cerberus account work away grand. Moral of the story Sony is junk Cerberus is great!

    Thanks for all the replies.

Just trying out Cerberus now and it looks like it's gonna tick all the boxes.

Multiple devices on the one licence is a winner too.
