has anyone ever notice/stepped back and took notice of how smug Irish people can be.
I suppose my 2 examples are in the boom people who "notionally" had money really threw it in your face, regailing you with stories of thier africian safaris, tubro BWms etc.. they looked down on anyone who didnt flash the cash. i've got 4 houses and you rent "poor you"

Now i see this has flipped to the other exterme, the smuggest people are the one who will tell you are a dick for even compelementing buying a car, going on a holiday laugh at people in trouble with debt etc,

    or is it just me??

Its the two sides of the shadenfreude coin. Where once the haves enjoyed dominion over the have-nots, now the never-hads enjoy dominion over the lost-it-alls.

    Ugh.

Oh, and your post reeks of smugness. Must be that "Irish Smugness", very contagious this time of year.

Think I've caught it now, damn. If only I were British or American and immune to it.

The great thing about smugness is that it doesn't cost a thing - except my smugness, i splashed out and got the premium model.

Yeah I agree, I'm smug, but its only because I'm better than you.

    Now tell me,

What the fuck is a tubro BWm, ?

    Sounds extravagant, I want one.

I remember if you bought the Indo on a Friday / Saturday circa 05/06, the property section was bigger and thicker than the paper.

Totes OP. And have you ever noticed how Irish people have opinions. God-damn Irish people, with their Irish begrudgery and their Irish smugness and their Irish sexist and their Irish houses?

Don't even get me started on how Irish people don't take care of their appearance and how Irish women are ungrateful and how Irish men are creeps.

Just cause I'm right all the time doesn't mean I'm smug.

Most people who give out about smugness are the type of peons whose opinions don't count anyway.

Smug does go well with cunt as a term of abuse.

There's a pleasing cadence to it, especially in a Dublin accent: maybe the dual U sound or something.

    Completely agree with you.

During 2010/2011, the smuggest person in Ireland was the person who had sold their house at the top and was now renting....

"oh it was just pure luck" they'd tell you, knowing that actually they were really clever and that everyone now knew they had loads of money in the bank.......

It really bugs me the way Irish people are always generalising about Irish people.

    I'd never do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,733 ✭✭✭jam_mac_jam

Why does everybody think that every annoying thing is based on being Irish? Do you not think other countries have smugness? Why would this be remotely an Irish thing? Its people, humans.

I love hearing when my friends book fancy holidays and buy nice cars, and get their botox done.

I am delighted that they are doing well for themselves. They work hard for their cash and deserve to be rewarded.

I think a lot of Irish people are begrudgers.
