    Hey everyone,

First time post in the Computers section so take it easy on me.

I have a HP Pavilion DV6 2111SA which is about 3 years old.

I'm happy with it in that it's running Win7 & Office Pro 2010.

The battery is shot though and the VGA port doesn't work (apparently a known problem with the Nvidia graphics card)

Is it worth spending a few quid on a new battery, graphics card and maybe more RAM or am I just as well off in the long run buying a new one?

DxDiag reads as (the bits I think are important?)

as far as i know m8 you can only upgrade the ram on this laptop
heres a link if helpful http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_rule=15821&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4099776

Odds that that laptops will use a soldered GPU, meaning you'll have to replace the whole motherboard. Completely not worth the time or money.

What sort of budget / uses do you have in mind for a new laptop, and is a desktop an option at all? (Usually much better value)

    Thanks for the quick replies.

The laptop is mainly for work, I'm an electrician and use it for commissioning works so it gets fairly hacked. With this in mind I'd be only spending €5/600.

    Well this:

    XIRIOS BUSINESS B512 Notebook 39,6 cm (15.6 ")
    • 39.6 cm (15.6 ") HD (1366x768) Non-Glare
    • Intel HD Graphics
    • Intel Core i3-3130m - 2.70 GHz 3MB 35W
    • 4GB (1x4096) SO- DIMM DDR3 1600MHz Crucial RAM
    • 120GB SATA III SSD Samsung 840 Series (MZ-7TD120)
    • Multi-standard SATA DVD burner
    • Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (including Bluetooth)
    • Basic warranty: 24M. Pickup & Return | 6M. Immediately repair EN
    • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit English
    • Microsoft Office 2010 60-day trial version (only for order and pre-installation of Windows 7, or 8)
    • Keyboard UK English

Would cost €596, before delivery. You get an i3 processor, which will be leaps and bounds ahead of what you have now, as well as 4GB of RAM, and a 120GB solid state drive, which will make the laptop extremely fast, and also mean that you could drop it down the stairs, and your data would still be safe.
