I was in the city looking around shopping today and noticed this new hair colour thats out,ive seen it in the television ads also, its a new innovation oil based permanent hair colour.

Ive seen some of the colours advertised on television, blondes, intense reds and blacks,so i didnt think i would buy it as i thought those were the only colours that you could get.

I had a browse around and the olia range comes in different shades of blonde and brunette,so i thought i might give it a try.

I looked in tesco it was priced at 9.99,and it was priced at 8.99 in boots,so i bought it!

So now I ended up buying light chocolate shade 6+,but im afraid to use it as i have bad dandruff and i scratched my hair the other day and there are a few red sore spots.

How long should i leave it until i colour my hair?

And i would also like to know has anybody on this forum used olia and what do they think of it,does it improve the condition of the hair,or is it a bit harsh on the hair?

I never tried oil based colours before, and was wondering is there any chemicals i should be worried about?

Its only ok............I didn't find it left my hair in any better condition that any other home colour product. Dark colours weren't great for grey coverage and left my hair slightly dull. However I know someone who uses one of the blonde colours and gets lots of compliments

I really did not like this hair dye.

Used a red one on my hair, the only parts that coloured were the ones that had never been dyed before. The rest of it just turned to a black colour, it didn't end up anywhere near the colour it should have been and it was impossibly to dye out!

It may have just been me but I really was not a fan!

    Thanks for the honest replies!

I think i will let it sit for another week until my scalp calms down. :)

I hope the chocolate turns out okay - if it doesnt i will keep some euros aside for a trip to the hairdressers!

I've used Olia in a deep red-brown shade twice now and I love it, very quick and easy to apply, no nasty smell, no tingly scalp, and it washes out quicker and easier than any other dye I've used!

My hair is softer and more manageable since I started using it; my hair is naturally dry so I think the oil-based product suits it.

The conditioner is pretty good too, and plenty provided.

The downside is that it does begin to fade after 3 or 4 weeks, but I actually like the tones it fades to on my hair!

I'd wait a couple of days at least after your scalp has cleared up, in the meantime you can do a patch test to make sure the dye doesn't irritate your skin generally.

Thanks dee,i will keep the positive side out and hope for the best with this, pity to hear the colour fades just after four weeks. But i dont have to worry about covering gray yet so im not too bothered about the fact it fades quicker.

Pity though the olia crowd should look into improving their formula to make it last longer.

Given its not peroxide or ammonia based im hoping it will be easier on my sensitive scalp and hair.

results might be different on your hair, the john freida shampoo for red hair is excellent IMO and often on 3 for 2 in boots, makes colour bright and shiny for longer (I haven't used it with olia which might account for the quicker fading!)
