Do people on the dole get the snip for free. If they dont, they should as it would save a fortune in extra allowances. Before anyone starts going mental i didnt say they should be forced to get the snip...

Whatever about the snip being free for people on the dole etc, thats just a personal choice tbh, but this thread put a very memorable quote in my head which I heard a few years ago and tis one of the few quotes I actually 100% agree with really, probably wont be favoured by everyone or even many tbh but it does make sense by Sir MM :)

“You should have to pass an IQ test before you breed. You have to take a driving test to operate vehicles and an SAT test to get into college. So why dont you have to take some sort of test before you give birth to children? When I am President, thats the first rule I will institute.”

It's actually such a simple operation that a doc performed it on himself.

Well I would assume, and hope, such a test would be taken before the person actually got/tried to get pregnant tbh :)

If they fail the test, how can they be stopped having sex without contraception or even with contraception but it failing? Or would failing the test mean mandatory sterilisation?

Basically just chop their cock off all together?! What age would you give this test? What if the mother was a genius and the oul fella a tool, what then?

I would say that if the test was failed that they would be put on some reliable form of birth control such as the pill etc/sterilization if really needed, since we dont have any form of abortion clinic in this country as of yet

But to fail the test would mean basically that you were unfit to parent a child because of some actual reason, as there should be something to study of before you take the test as well as your own thinking/way of going about things etc, its a big decision to either stop someone having children/force someone to so the test in question shouldnt be at all flippant :)

Tbh if the woman is on a reliable form of contaception and is taken properly at least then, as much as accidents do/can happen, its minimising the risk greatly imho.
As for the age the test should be mandantory, thats also a personal choice, but imho Id say up to about mid 20s minimum then the test should be taken by people who want/think about to have children, but thats just my opinion, thats a very personal part of it.

More kids needed rather than less, when I'm getting the pension I'd like a population triple what we have now so they can pay for me :D

I asked my nurse would they tie my tubes after I have my second child by c-section, they said not until you are at least 35. I dare say they say that to young men too.

What if they passed the test but were crap parents, does someone take the baby and look after it for them? Is this where the experts who carried out the test come in?
No one knows what it's like to be a parent until you actually become a parent.

The snip is not reversable. Would an implant on the women not be better. 3/5 years with no risk of having a baby

How do IQ tests prove anything other than an ability to do well in IQ tests?

Anyway test ≠ real world experience

    Good to know.

It's not something I'm considering now but down the road its probably something I'll opt for.

Would never have thought it was covered by the medical card, they should advertise this service because there are people do want it done.

    Snip is reversible
In a lot of cases its been known to self heal ,

Here in NZ you can get a free vascectomy on the medical card. If you have more kids than you can afford there is no age limit. I know a 30yo who had it done after fathering 5 kids to three different women (none of whom he supports).

As regards an iq test for parenting, that is patently ridiculous. Your intelligence has no bearing on how good a parent you will be. One of the best mums I know is definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer but she's kind and patient and she might not be able to help her kids with their homework but they all sure as hell know how to cook, clean, do laundry and care for each other, which is far more important. Some really smart people I know are cold, uncaring, impatient pr!cks who would make far worse parents. Fwiw I think that being allowed to breed if you so wish is a basic human right.

The UN Declaration of Human Rights, Article 16.1
Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.

Some of the smartest people I've known have been the most selfish and/or cruel cvnts I've known.

A good friend of mine would lay his life on the line for his friends or family and as long as I've known him has only ever seemed to want the best for people. Pretty sure he'd flunk an IQ test though.

Really don't think something as arbitrary as an IQ test would be the best yard stick by which to measure whether or not someone should be permitted to have children in any future utopia.

The snip its reversible, but the chances of it working are slim. Yes there are cases of self healing but these are rare.

a vasectomy its available on medical card but waiting times are ridiculous... Can be 2 years plus.. Also you need gp referral and thats dependent on factors such as age and number of previous children etc

As its available for les than €500 in places, most people who are serious about out get it done private.

No one knows what it's like to be a parent until you actually become a parent.

Exactly there, but the test in question if there ever was such a thing which I doubt really, would/should help on that with it being about having kids/what its like from personal experiences from different people/questions about yourself and your opinions on such things/why you want children personally and how you would plan for them etc etc

And no,, this isnt in answer to you Hondasami :), I never said it was an IQ test - which is basically just a mind test in general as far as i know - I meant a test on the specific subject of having children where theyre would be books/courses/personal experience to go over beforehand, and obviously case by case situations would be taken under consideration also.

no need to anything surgical. just stop continuously rewarding those who have never worked for having children they can't afford.

My experience would not necessarily be the same for another person, no amount of reading or talking can prepare you for bringing a newborn home and looking after it, the books make it all seem lovely but reality is different.
I don't think anyone can tell you what your experience of motherhood will be like because until it happens even you don't know.

My point exactly, albeit maybe im going about in a roundabout way :o:)
In short, having a test like this if there ever was one may stop people from the mentality of "must have a child before I get too old", "having a child is what you should do/what everyone else their age is doing" or "I want to have a baby while young enough to be a yummy mummy and be like the childs big sister"
Imho, these are not the right reasons to have a child, at all really, but they are said and heard all the time these days, thats what id like to see change.

No, force the parents to be accountable for their own actions!

If they can't afford any more children then take preventative measures.

Opening a can of worms here but traveller families are a clear example of how the children's allowance/welfare system is wrong. Having ten children and expecting the state to support them
Is wrong no matter what type if spin you put on it.
