So I am going away for 11 weeks and will be getting out travel insurance, probably with multitrip.ie.

I assume this will not cover my phone and camera if they get stolen/broken etc? And just insures me! Does anybody know if there is insurance to cover these kinds of things when travelling?

not necessarily, most travel insurance covers a certain amount of personal belongings. You just need to read the policy document or call them if you're unsure. There may be a high excess for example, but you'll only know if you examine the policy of an insurance you're contemplating getting.

As Gatica mentions, check the excess on policies that cover cameras, phones & other electronics. You don't want to end up making a claim for a (say) €350 phone that is subject to a €250 excess, leaving you with only €100 for example. While €100 is better than nothing, you will end up paying higher premiums in the future when you tick the little box that says "have you ever claimed on an insurance policy?" Also, if it's not covered by your main policy and you took out a separate electronics policy then your €100 will realistically be reduced by the amount of the premium you already paid.

I'm not saying you shouldn't insure, but you should weigh up the cost of the insurance, the excess charged, the value of the items & the future cost to you of increased premiums if you do make a claim.

It's a sad reality that making a claim will normally result in your future premium (even for other types of insurance) going up because you now technically present an increased risk.

Many thanks guys! From trying to figure out what policy is cheapest/best/needed, my head was totally swimming with too much information! Far too much small print! Cheers!

I have them insured and named on my house insurance policy, and I can take them out of the country and they are still covered and there is no excess, you get the full amount for the item lost or stolen.

"full amount" should be qualified with "including depreciation". No insurer will cover the original cost of an item, especially if you've owned it awhile. Another thing to consider when comparing cost/benefit.
Not all of them will cover cost of replacement either, though maybe some do.
