Hi Can anyone point me to the better schools in Dublin 8 or D2, we need to think in terms of feeder schools to good secondary schools. Catholic or multi denominational no preference. We have a boy, but I prefer coed.
    TIA

The primary school in basin lane is excellent. Beside st.james hospital. It will be co-ed from September. As it is DEIS 1 you get free lunches. You also get free gymnastics, swimming and mindfulness. There is a playground in the school and huge field. Also a multi sensory room. There is very small class sizes 13 in each senior infant class. They get extra help in terms of learning support teachers. There is an after school club you can sign up for with free dinner aswell!!! It's a great set up! For secondary some kids would go to Louis in rathmines loreto in crumlin. Also the CBS school.
    Good luck

What is DEIS 1? Im thinking its a school for children from underprivileged areas? I imagine the small classes are great for children who may need extra support, but if your child was not in need of extra support would the classes be less challenging and stimulating for him?

Nearly all of the schools in dublin 8 are deis this means developing equality in education in schools. It basically means they get more funding for free lunches etc. how it works is they do literacy power hours in infants. Class is divided into top middle and low. During this time there are 4 teachers(2 class and 2 learning support)in the room. The top group are given harder work in terms of reading books and work. So your child would definitely be challenged. Teachers in every school have to differentiate aka prepare work to meet the needs of each child. My child is bright and she has really blossomed in the school. She is on reading level 12 in senior infants and is constantly pushed to do better! So I am happy enough!
