No that mileage is not high. I believe swirl plates are a concern on these and one of the best options is to have them blanked. First port of call.

    Mileage 74,527
    last Service 58,400
16,127 miles without a service. I'd want to check out it's service history to make sure it's been looked after. 16,000 miles without a service is a bit much no?

will the car be coming with a service? i'd want new filters all round, and new oil aswell, possibly new brake pads aswell.

It's probably "ok" if it's on BMW long life servicing...

    For an enthusiast yes.

But for BMW no, as this is their recommended count down. Personally id always half that but its what BMW recommend then your within their set limits.

BMW have various software updates for all their transmissions on most models. Provided this vehicle has received its updates at service time you shouldnt have a problem,

Id imagine car giant stand over their own warranty so i would envisage this being an issue for you.

2008 the LCI facelift came in which to my eyes did a lot to improve the styling. But the spec on that one is good so can see the temptation.

That is very similar to my car. :) On top of the standard Edition M Sport spec that car has a few options such as heated seats and the professional idrive/Sat NAV which has a wider screen and two DVD trays.

The inlet manifold was redesigned when the N47 engine was introduced in Sept 2007 so the swirl flaps should not be an issue though some owners still prefer to have them removed.

You might want to do a bit of reading up on the N47 timing chain issues though as these cars can suffer from the chain getting noise and eventually snapping. Not a cheap job to put right either but if the car has a full BMW service history they may contribute towards some of the costs.

I definitely would recommend halving the BMW service interval though, I get my oil and filters changed every 15k km, BMW's 30k km is way too long imo.

Other things to be aware of are that this car sits on 18" staggered alloy wheels so tyres are not cheap especially if they are run flat tyres which they come with from the factory. Most people change to regular tyres including me as I saw no value added in sticking with run flat tyres.

by face lift do u mean the bonnet? thats the only difference i can really see and its nice but not a deal breaker really. could i buy the new bonnet to fit?

LCI or facelifted model got redesigned headlights, new grill, new bumpers and new exterior mirrors. The "Edition" models were introduced just before the facelift and kitted out with lots of extras for very little money at the time.

thanks thats some good info! is the timing chain a cert that it will go or is it a random fault that probably wont happen unless im just unlucky?

No such thing as a cert. These things can happen randomly or can be brought on by the life of the vehicle.

Have it assessed by a qualified mechanic to safeguard its current condition. After that just maintain the car to a good standard and dont spend too much timing worrying about what ifs.

Well it's hard to say really. Mine has similar mileage to the one you are looking at and no problems to date. There are thousands of these cars with this engine on the road and there is a certain percentage of them that have developed timing chain problems, some with only 35k miles on the clock while others had over 120k miles on the clock. My advice is if you are buying one make sure you get the best and longest warranty as possible.

ya cargiant have this guarantee for parts and labour by AA approved garages http://www.cargiant.co.uk/used-cars-for-sale/AboutCars/used-car-Warranty.asp

would this rule out BMW doing any work if required?
