Hi, im new to the boards forum and im looking for info on a problem with transmission on a 2003 toyota avensis 2.0ltr d4d strata. over the last week ive noticed that when i accelerate or decelerate there is a movement in the gear lever when the car is in fifth. yesterday when i engaged fifth it wouldnt stay in gear and slipped back to neutral. if i hold the gear lever in fifth when driving there is no problem and there is no grinding to be heard when engaging or disengaging fifth gear but it just keeps slipping back to neutral.
If anyone has experienced this type of problem i would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me.
looking forward to hearing from ye folks,
    Hooley75.

Common enough on the Avensis - this is probably failure of the baulk ring in the synchromesh mechanism for fifth gear. It's transmission out, strip, replace and rebuild, I'm afraid.
