Search facility on samsung s3?

Just moved over from the iphone and one of the things I'm missing / finding tricky is the lack of search facility on the samsung s3, but it's possible I just don't have the settings correct ... For example, suppose I wanted to search for a friends address and i don't know its stored in the phone or if someone sent it to me via text or email I could search under the street name and the email / sms etc or whereever it was referenced will appear.

On the samsung I know if i press and hold the menu button i get a search facility but it only searches the web / contacts and doesn't search emails etc.

Is this just my settings or is this the design feature?

As far as I know there is no equivalent feature in android. You can search contacts via contacts and texts via the messaging app and mail via gMail but Ive never seen it aggregated.
