NCD Protection worth it?

I just got my renewal quote €280 without protecting my NCD (5 years) or €410 for fully protect it against 1 claim. Is it worth paying €130 to protect this (I don't do a huge amount of driving and have never had a claim)? It seems like a lot to protect against this as a % of the total policy.

Also I have 1 named driver on the policy if they crash and claim with it affect my NCD?

It will be worth it if you crash

Just get a quote online for the same car with 0 NCD and see the difference, I'm betting it's worth more than you think but could be wrong.

Ill have to ring them they wont quote online (Tesco). i have looked a few other places and I can get insured fully comp with it fully protected for €10 more with Allianz. I think I have made up my mind now :)

€130 for NCD protection sounds like a lot, for my insurance the Full NCD protection was a €60 add on...

I paid €5 for full no claims protection with insure.ie a couple of years ago. €130 extra is madness.

There are two different types of NCD protection, step back and full, which was this?

I am thinking the same as some other posters in this thread. I generally think it is a no-brainer however €130 seems a bit high especially when considered as a percentage of the total premium. But if something happens you will be glad you paid for it. One of our customers reversed into his wife's car one Monday morning a few weeks back. Total bill for the damage to both cars was €3500. He was certainly glad he had paid for the NCD protection!

Just remember it only protects your no claims with that insurer, it's no use if you move insurers later.

It was full. The online quote didn't give me the option to select it so I rang them. Couldn't believe it when she said it was only €5 extra.

Are you looking at Full comp with NCD protection and 3rd party F&T without protection. €130 sounds incorrect. I just renewed insurance and the quotes to protect were €25-€35 on average, no one was much dearer.

Generally it costs me about fifty quid and while I've never used it as long as I can afford it I will buy it.
