The Pucan do a nice breakfast and good value too. The cellar do a nice one, munroes isn't bad either though only had that once. I'd usually go to the Pucan myself when having breakfast in town though.

Life wouldn't be the same without the fry up every Saturday and Sunday!

Freeneys in Bothar Na Tra are supposedly one of the best.
    I prefer Kai though.

point of order Chairman, infacta it's Feeneys for the fry (one of the best, good service as well!), tis Freeneys for the dirty pints the night before!

I think you mean Feeney's? Freeney's is the pub in town :)

But yeah, Feeney's in Salthill is excellent. One of the best Full Irish Breakfasts I've had in Galway. This is the place. Has had a renovation since the photo though.

There's already a big thread on this.

I've tried a lot of full Irish breakfasts in Galway and Frends on the Tuam Road is the best I've come across!

+1 for Frends, they're not open on a Sunday though which is what OP wanted.
Where did you end up going OP?

Can I throw in the hat for McCambridges upstairs? Free range bacon and sausages and home-made beans. Very yummy and not at all greasy.

Homeplate, but be warned, wear your stretchy pants.

Quay St. Kitchen ain't bad either.

Was in the Gourmet Tart yesterday morning with Mrs Fozzie and had the fry there. Have to say it was really good. All Collerans products used, G.T's in house brown bread and coffee for €8.95.

Used to get a monster brekkie in The Drum back in the day. Was always our spot for the hangover cure of a Sunday morning.

But the best for me was Mary's home cooking (long since closed) in Oranmore for breakfast. Mother of God what a feed. You didn't walk out of the place afterwards. More like a laboured pregnant like waddle with a belly full of various pig meats, chips, beans, half a loaf of toast and several clogged arteries...

+1 on Kai, a savoury fry is probably the best way to describe it. Delish!!

Also Homeplate if you are looking for a monster feed but still tasty.

What I wouldn't do for another bash at that now. :(

    the galway plate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,071 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

It may be a more "quantity over quality" decision- but I always go to Finegans/O'riordans for fry up if that is what I crave
Massive portions, and staff will happily alter it suit what you want. Price isn't bad either

Best fry in the city for good value is Bon Apetite on upper abbeygate street. It's 5 euro for a full fry and a cup of tea.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,711 ✭✭✭Redhairedguy

I shouldn't have to say this guys. Don't just call something shíte, terrible or awful. If you've got something to say about a place, do so constructively. Food and dining experiences are subjective and shouldn't be tarnished because one person doesn't like it.

For example, I love Finnegan's. Others hate it. It's all opinions at the end of the day.

Apologies! Hadn't finished, if I want a fry a fiver deal is rarely worth it. The cellar is dynamite. Their regular breakfast is MASSIVE, I barely finish the small. Nice service too

    +1 top class

Not sure if it's changed since, but the worst I had in town was in the townhouse, got it at around 4:30pm and it was as if it was laying in the kitchen cooked since 6am.
Anyone had a fry there recently?
Though i must say the rest of their menu is lovely!!

Also, Ard Bia at Nimmos is really nice too, and thats the "Hippy Fry" (veggie)

I gotta say i'm perpetually disappointed with the Fry's in town.... the very odd good one i suppose but usually there's something not right, like a poor quality sausage, or a watery rasher or crap mushrooms.

If you want to be absolutely certain of quality across the fry there really is no substitute for picking up the nessecary bits from the butcher and shop and cooking them up yourself and wolfing down with a read of the paper and a look at the telly (sport preferably)

But you're out Salthill aren't you? Hard to beat the Gourmet Tarts fry.

With that in mind... Who is the best sausage purveyor (ooher missus) in town?

The pigs on the green sausages in Mc.Cambridges are pretty good IMO but the ones from Castlemaine farm are a bit too porky (ooher missus) for me..

Divilly's, in Westside, own sausages, the jumbo ones (not the ones they buy in), are great.

Only problem with the place is it's so busy there at weekends she could have had the baby there and mightn't have been noticed!

Thier puddin's, no matter which size you get, ain't fantastic tbh.

Was in the Pucan yesterday for a fry up. Greasy, not a great portion size. The place is so dark and dank as well.

Home Plate is great, but Food for Thought is probably my favourite. Bacon and Pudding is always quality, lovely home fries too. nom

The big breakfast in homeplate is about €8 I think.

The "small" breakfast is €5 and it's still huge and you still get a big mug of tea.
