Not worth buying from HWVS if you're just buying one thing, 'cos shipping is a flat 19 euro.

No point getting anything more than a Cooler Master 212 EVO for a 3570k, (unless you want absolute silence) it'll get you 4.6ghz which, unless you get a golden chip, is all you're going to get from that CPU. Pushing it to 4.8 might happen on a high end cooler, but by that stage you're pushing the voltage to 1.4v+ which isn't worth it imo.

Have you binned your CPU to see how well it might be able to OC?

Im ordering a few bits fron hvws so it should be grand. I have not yet binned it because im getting the i5 in the same order. I would be doing some heavy gaming and like to keep my temps low,how would the 212 fare on a mild overclock lets say 4.2 Ghz?

Imho it's best to let intel bin the processor for you.

What I mean is, try getting a rough idea on how good an OC your CPU can get before spending money on a high end air cooler.

The 212 will breeze through a 4.2 overclock. You might even get 4.2 at stock voltage if the chip is good.

Indeed, unless silence is an absolute (and the 212 is pretty silent, it doesn't ramp up in gaming at all, only when stress testing) I can't see a reason to spend more than the evo on a 3570k.

I have an i5-3570k and a cm evo 212 and also have the chip overclocked at 4.2GHz and it runs very nicely.
I have the fan on the evo set to full, and while its the loudest fan at idle its in no way unbearable to me. This overclock was achieved with basically stock voltage aswell

Buddy, OC that to 4.4, 4.6 even :). And why is your fan at full? Mine only ramps to full when under stress (IBT, Prime). In gaming it barely budges (I'd hear my graphics card first like).

Yeah it would be possible to overclock it further but i really dont feel the need at the moment. The pc handles everything i throw at it absolutely fine for the moment. For me i dont want to be running on the edge of waht the chip can do all the time. And 4.2GHz for me is nice and stable on the stock voltage,it'll actually do 4.3GHz but i think 4.2GHz was a little more stable for me. Obviously each to there own,but that suits me. As pc starts to show its age ill look into overclocking it more.

As for the fan on the evo 212 its on max az i have case fans turned right down, there way nosier that the evo 212 in the caze i have

There's no need for the fans to be on max at all.

Fix it in the BIOS :)
