    Looks good.

The keyboard will be most likely a German layout though.

You would be better off trying amazon for one.

I would recommend perhaps getting an Intel CPU (bear with me guys :P), especially for Starcraft. It's a horribly optimised game and maxed out, beyond a 7770, is hugely CPU bound. It relies on one core primarily (with a bit of load on the second core). Nothing on AMD's side comes close to an overclocked 3570k for SC2.

    Maybe get an i53330?

Isn't Guild Wars a CPU bound game too? The 7870 is definitely overkill for SC2 and LoL. I'm pretty sure it is for GW2 too. Maybe get a cheapo 7850 (you would sacrifice the game offer, though) or even a 7790/7770 and get an overclockable 3570k? You'd save a bit on shipping too as you'd be getting it all on HWVS.

    A 3330 is €50 more.
You do make good points but I'm not sure the budget can move that much.

But you'd save more than that on the GPU if you bought a 7850 (160 quid, less postage too as you'll get it from HWVS). You could even drop to a 7770 and be fine (under €100), at least for SC2. Not sure about GW. LoL isn't gross ally intensive at all.

Actually, if I were you, I'd get a 3570k plus cooler and buy a 7770. Then sell the 7770 I about 6 months for a better card.

Build is for a friend so I'll have to run changes by him.

    What cooler would you recommend?

Gumbi has a good point, theres a SC2 benchmark in this German review of the FX6350 (Buttons on the graph for each game). The i3 soundly beats both the FX6350 and its higher clocked sibling the FX6350.

EDIT: I'd also avoid the MSI 970 chipset boards if you do go AM3+, they aren't very well regarded on overclock.net for overclocking, although the G46 is the best of the bunch

    What cooler would you recommend?

Cooler Master 212 EVO. Almost guaranteed to get you 4.6ghz. 4.4 definitely. That's up from stock of 3.4 (though it does boost to 3.8 on two cores). Plus much quieter than Intel stock cooler.

Wait for more opinions on this. It's just that the 3570k OCed will do for gaming for a long time, and you can upgrade the 7770 (which is more than sufficient for SC2 and LoL) to something better after some time.

Just thinking. I don't want to buy something now and have him upgrade in 6 months time...
It sort of falls directly into the old Consoles Vs PC clichés.

Plus I want to see if he'll give me the copy of Blood Dragon that comes with the card...

But this way you get a much better CPU. And like I said. The 7770 is plenty for SC2. Loads for LoL. It should be fine for GW too (though whether or no it's overkill I don't know).

Like I said, wait for more opinions. All I'm saying is, the 3570k is hands down the best CPU for SC2. Nothing else comes close.

With this approach you get a better system overall (much better CPU and if you wait 6 months, a better GPU too).

If I were to keep the FX6300, what board would be better suited?

Even the 7770 would probably last considerably longer that 6 months if those sort of game are pretty much the extent of what he would be playing.

If he would be playing other more GPU bound titles then a more balanced FX rig might be the way to go.

Perhaps, but the budget allows for a 3570k + cooler if he drops from the original 7870 myst from aria (210 quid) and get a 7770.

I'm pretty much in completely in agreement with you :), the HD 7870 XT is argueably overkill for just the listed games

Can't go wrong with the Extreme4 for a tenner more, the extreme3 is about the same price but doesn;t seem to be on their stock list anymore

I know, but it's always the way.

If you wait you get better stuff.
If you spend more, you get better stuff.

I will deffo see if I can convince him to get the GPU later, but I'm not confident.

    I know what you're saying.

But the current is GPU I'm proposing is definitely sufficient. Don't forget to emphasise that point. He gets the best gaming CPU around with my option too.

Is the keyboard definitely german? Seems like a nice piece of kit for the price. Review here:http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4865/sharkoon_skiller_gaming_keyboard_review/index8.html
