    Hi all,

Can anybody briefly explain the relationship between:

    - SAFETY, HEALTH AND WELFARE AT WORK ACT 2005

    - SAFETY, HEALTH AND WELFARE AT WORK (CONSTRUCTION) REGULATIONS 2006

SAFETY, HEALTH AND WELFARE AT WORK (General Application ) REGULATIONS 2007

    Cheers!

In short regulations are updated, replaced, revised, amended etc and you need to look for the most recent one to ensure compliance. The usual practice is to have a "base set" of regs and then as time goes by and circumstances change they are amended accordingly. The amendments/revisions are published so you will most likely find that you will have to read the original regs together with all subsequent amendments/revisions.

If you are asking for the exact difference between the regs you linked to above Im afraid you will have to read through them yourself :)

    Thanks muffler.

Is it safe to assume that a statutory instrument is an amendment/expansion to the base regulation?

The 2005 act is the law, regulations are just updates i do not think they mean anything

They all form part of the law. The Act is the primary legislation, regulations are secondary legislation made as part of the Act. They all apply as part of the "umbrella" Act.

The two sets of regulations you reference are applicable to two different sorts of work. The General Application regulations apply generally, i.e. to everything. The Construction regulations apply to, well, construction works as defined in the Act.
