Can anyone recommend a LEGAL Football online streaming service ? One that must show Championship matches aswell as Premier League games and stream in very good quality ( I know ones own broadband service must be up to scratch to begin with ), obviously this would be a pay service. Does such a service exist, would it cost much and is it available in Ireland ?

Can't say I can think of any other than what Sky offer

Seen this advertised on TV, it's £10 a day for all sky sports channels. I haven't signed up myself so I cannot comment on how good the streaming is.

I'd be into that if it was available.

Similar to the music industry the televised sports industry seems to be burying its head and missing an opportunity.

Sky Go (which is available in Ireland) will give you what you want, tis a bit more expensive than Now TV (which is also owned by Sky, but not available in Ireland).

TV companies are not burying their head, they're attempting to do what they can in terms of streaming but are tied into the territory system by the rights holders who are anxious to maximise their revenue. That limits what they realistically can do.

Thanks for the replies guys. I should have specified that what I am after, is an online ( Legal and above aboard ) service, that streams 3pm Saturday kick offs live from the Premiership and the Championship ? I know all about the illegal ones, which in my experience are of dire quality and are only good for filling your PC with viruses and bugs.

If you have Sky, you can watch the La Liga game being streamed by them tonight, and then compare the quality with what you have already streamed.

Ah. The FA does not allow the broadcast by any means whatsoever of football of any kind in England between 2:45-5:15pm on Saturdays, other than during international windows (and formerly on the day of the FA Cup final). There are similar rules in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

This effectively prevents any UK national broadcaster from broadcasting football during these times (aside for S4C's coverage of the League of Wales, which is legal within Wales itself, where there is no blocked window, and a blind eye is turned elsewhere in the UK, becuase its (a) in Welsh and (b) its the League of Wales) which means there are no UK sites which can legally stream these matches.

As for Irish sites. While there is no blocked window in Ireland, the FA Premier League only makes the rights to one 3pm game available in Ireland, this is as a package of 33 live games (one each week that is that is played on a Saturday and one on the final day) which will be held for the next three years by Setanta Sports. The only legal way to get a stream of this match is to be an Eircom Broadband subscriber, you can stream Setanta from Eircom's website at www.eircom.net IF you are connected via the eircom network at the time. There is no legal way to stream or otherwise watch the other 3pm games in Ireland.

The Football League do not make the rights to 3pm games available in Ireland and there is no legal way to watch these games in Ireland.

Thanks for that. It's a pity that the FA don't allow legal live streaming, on a paid for basis obviously, you would think that there would be a market for it, but I guess there is far more money to be made from the TV broadcasters around Europe and indeed the world, who buy the Premiership rights. I was in Tenerife recently, in a pub/restaurant, where they were showing a Chelsea premiership game live on some channel with what looked like Arabic graphics on the screen, alongside the Premier League logo, I'm guessing it was Moroccan or some other North African sports channel that has premiership rights.

The Premier League would do it if they could, but the FA has a wider duty to all 92 professional football clubs and the lower leagues below. There is a belief entrenched in the FA, rightly or wrongly, that gates at the lower levels would be destroyed if these matches were widely available for viewing in the UK.

The end result, in my view, is likely to be the Premier League eventually moving all of its games out of the Saturday 3pm slot. I don't know why they haven't already.

i don't know about the championship, would guess it's not available though but anyway i'll leave it out.

Like people have said it's not possible to get what you want in Ireland or even the UK.

though what you're asking about is available in certain countries, US, Sweden, Egypt/middle east are a few examples of where it's legal to watch all 380 games online via subscription

you can access them from here but i don't think i can say how, though doing it leaves you back at the illegal part

i'm not sure of your reasons for wanting it to be legal, is it just you want it to be legal what you're accessing or is it because you feel the legal option will provide the best quality

there are a few streaming services available of good quality, virus free, etc. which you pay for other than the free ones which you already know about

Im hoping that, rightly or wrongly, a legal service would provide a top quality, virus free streaming. I have come across loads of sites that are offering a paid for service, but I am afraid to try them as I don't know if they are legal or not and what kind of service do they provide ? It's bad enough getting the dire, constantly buffering/picture freezing etc that's goes with the illegal sites, without having to pay for it aswell ! Do you know if the subscription ones are any good and are legal ? The mods here suggest, that nobody can stream live English football to ROI or UK, legally .

galtee boy, Sky Go is probably your best bet, you'll have to pay full whack for a basic Sky Package plus the sports but you'll be able to stream all the live games that Sky show in good (non HD) quality. It's a very decent service.

The only other option I know of, don't know if it's legit, is the thread over in the soccer forum about paid streaming sites, ask about bugs and legality over there.
    Link.

    the legal sites:
they should be virus free yeah
top quality - they show good quality streams but like you said in your first post this depends on your own internet connection

i don't think i can say how to access them but google will help you with geoblocking

is it legal to access a site which can legally stream all 380 games in their own territory? It'd be the same answer as is it legal to access the BBC iPlayer (non international version) from ireland
The way of doing this will also, more than likely, have an effect on the quality of the stream - not good for live streaming but the better your connection, the less likely you'll notice

yeah the mods & others are right, nobody can except for those that have the rights here, sky, BT, setanta.
as already mentioned if you're an eircom subscriber you can watch the games setanta show
sky go has been mentioned here, but thats not what you're looking for
bt i don't know if they'll stream here
but all those can only stream live the games they have the rights to - what they show on TV. Not what you want

i cant talk about the illegal ones now & it'll probably get removed if i do, so i'll not but have a read of the thread linked in post #13 or PM me if you want & i'll tell you what i know of them

Ok, thanks, it seems pretty clear that I can't get what I want in a legal way, ok it seems that it's a bit grey area over the legality or otherwise of gaining access to paid for streams from outside our jurisdiction , but I don't want a ban for discussing same, so I'll leave it there. Thanks for all the replies, as always people are more than willing to help on these forums, which is why it's a great place for us with an interest in all things to with TV, radio, AV, broadcasting, digital, tech of all sorts, etc etc, to come for help, advice and information.

One final word I believe you as a private residence owner can buy a legal card and receiver from numerous broadcasters in Europe as a result of a legal case taken by a pub owner in UK a few years ago and I have not seen that banned as yet although you should check with the F.A. to be sure.

any update to this scenario this season, the only legal way I can see is a nowtv daily sports pass at 10 a day

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,251 ✭✭✭ftakeith

still €2.99 per match to watch a setanta sports's live champions league/ europa league games through www.uefa.com

I will use this service a few times when a decent champions leaguegame needs to be watched to counter rte/tv3/itv's live games

this is what the English Premier League should do to counter internet piracy, copy www.uefa.com

the BBC have put MOTD on the iPlayer this season, that's all i can think of relating to it, not sure what BT have done regards online content

Al Jazeera Sport is worth looking into if you want legal

    over internet?

Yep. Have a good read about it in the Soccer Forum.

    over internet?

    yeah

here's the schedule http://www.en.aljazeerasport.tv/Schedule - ridiculous, i think it recently changed/went up to $19.99 a month about €15, you'll need a smartdns service too, about 5 per month if even

    how to: http://watchjsc.com/how-to-guide/

you can search this thread about it but the thread is being closed tonight

I think its time to close this thread, many of the contributions have gone too close to the line (and perhaps stepped over it) for my liking
