No, it's only a requirement if you're getting married in a church.

I got married in a church and i didn't do the pre marriage course.

Didn't want to waste my time listening to a priest/other telling me how to live with a woman - just wondering what experience do they have?

Presits don't do the course. It's usually lay people who I believe in the vast majority of cases are married

Priest told me that it wasn't necessary - he also told me it would be done by the parish priest of the area - not for me.

Really wonder what benefit it is?

No, you don't need to do a pre marriage course. It only applies if you are getting married in most Catholic churches in Ireland. Not all priests insist on it, but some are die hard, and won't let you get married without it.

You don't need to to do the pre-marriage course but to be honest I quite liked the idea. We're doing a civil ceremony, so me and himself sat down one evening and went through these questions.

I felt it was worth doing - we got talking about things in depth that we'd only brushed over in the past.

I assumed you had to do the course if your getting married in a church! Personally I would prefer not to do it as its only a money racket to me...must find out if my priest wants us to do it or not!

A lot of those questions are ridiculous.

Are they assuming these people have just met?
Almost all of them would be covered already if the couple live together...
