I've rooted every phone I've had and regularly change ROMs. I haven't touched the Nexus 7. It's pretty much perfect for what I use a tablet for.

As for size, I had a 10" Transformer and found it a bit too bulky. 7" is bang on for me.

Captain Morgan, same boat as you but have no tablet yet!

Heres my preamble, I like the Nexus 7 but it took ages to get my hands on one and because the screen is what it is and the IPAD Mini came out as well I did not move for one. Compared to the Ipad mini I really need the real estate but not the price of IPAD Mini!
Recently looked at the Nexus 7 but Nexus 7 mark 2 is coming out in July with supposedly a HD screen and sporting a camera back and front and sporting Android Lime Pie (or something to that effect). Again, may move on one but don't think so.

There are three operating systems out there, windows 8, IOS and Android. I'm thinking of waiting for the Acer Iconia W3 an 8.1" tablet due out 3rd quarter or I may plum for the Acer Iconia A1 which is an Android 7.9" tablet sporting jelly bean, mini HDMI and expandable memory! the A1 is supposed to cost 169 GBP and the W3 244 GBP.

Imo Rooting is still worth for example for apps like adaway. But I agree that the stock os is ideal.

I installed a couple on fancy options but always reverted to vanilla android.

Don't think I'd upgrade have a 32gb standard with the exception of nova launcher ,
The spec's seem the same the same bar the camera and screen ,Bluetooth ,NFC and so on ,
don't use the camera for anything yet Skype is hit and miss ,

If a nexus 7 came out with say a 8-12 mega pixel camera and bigger memory id consider an upgrade,

I find it the perfect size myself, especially for reading on, I use it at work a lot just have it propped up on my desk playing movies or music (and candy crush, cough) be interesting to see a HD screen though, although the resolution on movies is perfectly fine if you have 720p rips of stuff.
