Im getting a new front door, going for a hardwood door with the top third and fan light in stain glass.

Any one have ideas about different types of stain glass, can it be double glazed? Any other advice welcome?

stained glass looks great, but we had it in our old place and it darkened the hall significantly. If you have another lightsource ie. window, skylight then it would be a nice job

Stained glass doesnt have to be all dark or darken an area.
Mix it in with some nice opaque glass/beveled glass, and you can get a nice modern contemp look.

My friend made me bespoke tripple glazed stained glass strip windows for my front porch.
Went to his workshop to see him hand cutting, laying and soldering the stained glass pieces together and then creating the tripple glazed units.:)

When the sun or any bright daylight hits off the porch,we get a beautifull prizam/rainbow effect in the porch from the stained glass and opaque glass pieces.

Even on a dull cloudy day,the stained glass windows still let in plenty of light.

I just installed stained glass windows. And put the plain double glazed unit (no frame) inside. This is held in place with beading. Looks great.

What sort of cost is involved in getting such a door, would anyone know?
