Mint 2000 Golf 2.0 Auto - Worth a punt or dreadful crock?

    How do?

Ive been offered a 2000 golf cabrio with very low mileage, leather heated electric seats, alloys, specced very well etc. for very low money.

Obviously this is because it's 2.0, auto, high tax and poor MPG. My question is, how poor? I'd find 30 acceptable, but I'd imagine I'm looking at low - mid 20's? I
'd also imagine it's not very quick or exciting, so all I'm getting for the dollar is a car that looks great and is a nice place to be.

The tax would be rough too, but I suppose I could handle that, it'd be lower than what I'm paying now.
So, anybody owned one? Comfy? Decent on long journeys? Noisy? Anything else I should know?
I'm thinking stay away, as I know I'll never shift it when I want a change, but it's a very low price so I'm also thinking I can take a punt, it's nearly summer after all! :)

Insurance can also be higher for convertibles.

It all hinges on the price, really.

Have you driven it? Do you like it? Do you have a link to the ad, or is there one?

It honestly has no redeeming features. Ugly as sin, terrible mpg, as slow as a wet week, highish tax, and a price which actually seems high if its 1500.

Maybe if it was free. Otherwise no.

Sounds like a good price .They were very expensive car when new.I would put a lpg conversion on it and you would have rare car thats economical.

The convertible only has a tiny boot anyway, I don't think the tank would fit.

    You'd easily get a 2.0 206cc for that money

If I remember correctly, the Mk 4 Cabrio was based on the Mk 3 but had Mk 4 lights tacked on.

    Absolutely correct.

Hmmm, that's what I was thinking. Not worth the risk really, it'll be a millstone if I take it. Saleproof.

When I said less than 1500 yoyos, its actually a grand, with 3 months tax.

Still not appealing to me though.

Anybody know any real world mpg figures? Nothing on vagdrivers that I could find, and I never believe factory figures. Also, most of my driving is city based:o

Mid to low 20's is what I would reckon out of it. I presume it has a 4 speed auto. I ran a 2003 1.4 Polo with a 4 speed automatic box and it saw around 25mpg.

    very sound advice.

specially when you consider, to look at it, its a mk3 golf. even if it was free it might be a bad idea to drive it. it'd be an awful drain on your bank balance and the absolute most anti-banter car you could spend that much on.
