Hi, I got a Televes FTA box for my house as there was already a dish on the roof from the previous owner. It picked up channels straight away but have to auto tune to some different satellites but all seem to have more or less the same channels.

I was thinking of getting a 2nd box for another room as the dish has 4 connections already ran to different rooms. Is there any benefit to getting a more expensive box and moving the Televes to another room?

Will a more expensive box pick up more channels/satellites?

My friend said he has a spare sky box that I could use that will work fine. Would this have the guid function of a normal sky box?

    Thanks!

    1. What size dish have you?
    2. What's it aligned on?
    3. Is it motorised?

If answer to 3. is "no" then you'll receive signals from only one satellite cluster (the one your dish is aligned on) unless you fit a bracket with another LNB or motorise the dish.

This is a BIG subject so don't expect a simple answer.

How many LNBs are on the dish arm? If only one it may have been used for Sky previously and receiving the signal from this group of satellites at 28 degs. east - http://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php

If this is the case it won't receive a signal from any other satellites away from this position.

How many feeds from the dish to the main room where you've located the FTA sat receiver? If you have 2 feeds you could upgrade the Televes to a twin-tuner Freesat+ receiver which gives you 7 day guide, auto-tuning, record one/watch one or record two/playback one, text, red button services etc. You could then use the FTA receiver in another room.

A spare Sky receiver will also do for the FTA channels.
