Apparently there is a worldwide Visa issue.

Dundrum town centre is completely down. Queues outside PTSB banks in town for withdrawing cash?

    Anyone having any issues?

A spokesman for Permanent TSB said that ATMs were functioning normally and customers were able to get cash.

I'm with Ulster Bank and my card got declined randomly earlier although it went through a second time.

    I wonder if it's related?

Visa is just a brand, if you perform a transaction with a Visa Debit card, the transaction does not go to visa. It just goes to the institution that issued your card.

I had issues in Mahon, Cork. Wasn't able to use my PTSB debit card in Golden Disks. The guy behind the counter said there was some issue in a number of stores.

I was able to use my Ulster Bank card no problem, thankfully as there was a cue forming behind me! Pension day; there would have been a massacre

True, it ultimately will go to your own bank, however it will go through the schemes first. You use the card, acquirer will process it, send it to scheme who sends it to issuer. Schemes being Visa MC etc,

Ooh get me, I've gone all continental.

Got a free €30 from Rabo just for opening a Savings account and am in the process of shifting the current account to Danske.

lads there are issues with it, 2 of the guys in work got done at lunch time, ATM said no for one of them point of sale said no for another.... MONEY STILL CAME OUT OF THEIR ACCOUNTS.

Check all your recent transactions if they were declined and check your account. take note of transaction time, amount, reference number, and address.

Contacted AIB, they said there was some issue with visa debit cards working in machines.
Advised me best to get money from the branch. Couldnt give a time frame on when they would resolve but said best to not use it for 2-3 hours.

Definitely something up, the ATM asked me to feed it a cat. Weird.

Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I have to return some video tapes.

dundrum's eircom exchange is on fire.... all phones / bband / atm machines attached to that exchange are down. fire services are on the scene. maybe be down for a while yet while they assess that cause of the fire... then conduct repairs.

    i work for eircom :)

Our banks really are walking disasters they only have to do two things.

    1) Assess risk, lend prudently and make a comfortable profit.
    2) Have rock-solid, reliable IT systems that never go down.

Obviously they'll pay everyone a huge bonus for running the business so well.

It would be like running a supermarket where occasionally you forgot to stock the shelves with food and every now and then you'd just fill one store entirely with fabergé eggs and then wonder why you'd cash flow problems. Then the odd time you'd just put all the money into shopping trollies and wheel it around the car park for a laugh.

    From RTE 15 mins ago:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/business/2013/0510/391548-permanent-tsb-debt-cards/
Permanent TSB has confirmed that earlier problems with the bank's debit cards have now been fixed.

Debit card customers of Permanent TSB had been temporarily unable to carry out transactions in shops due to a technical fault.

A spokesman for the lender said the difficulties arose due to a problem with a "third party service provider".

AIB also said it was investigating problems customers are having with its visa debit cards. It too said the issue is with a third party service provider.

    Well that's that sorted then.

What's the going compensation rate for seven minutes of moderate mental anguish, I wonder?

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD...

    ... in Dundrum...

ALL VISA DEBIT CARDS ARE AFFECTED

... for PTSB for 7 minutes.

    Are you CNN?

Mentioned nothing about the money being take from peoples accounts even though the transactions were returned as failed. Would not fancy being a couple hundred down over the weekend with kids to feed, direct debits pending etc.

it's a mess, it shouldnt have happened

No problem here. But then im collecting my free money from the post office. No bank to deal with.

Yep just tried to use my card in Starbucks and tesco declined both times but can see the money deducted on my online account. No getting through to the 1890 number! More fool me for using it the second time thought Starbucks was a fluke.

My dad said he had a problem withdrawing cash with his ptsb visa debit two days ago. It was refused the first time and then gave him cash when he tried again. Double the amount was deducted from his account. On speaking with PTSB they said it could take up to 5 weeks to refund the amount but if they couldn't find a problem he wouldn't get it back..... I don't think so PTSB!!!!

Wouldn't use the visa debit card today to be on the safe side....

You're the scaremongerer, yelling all those things. Go ask'em yourself. By the looks of it, they really aren't as much an issue as you make out to be.

I know as a TSB customer, my debit transactions tend to be held "in pending/reserve" before they go through.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,785 ✭✭✭Ihatecuddles-old

In AIB dundrum, they are having problems. She said someone hit a cable...want to be a big cable if the whole world is having issues!

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's scaremongering, my account is still down 700 smackeroons and nobody knows where it is yet.

What happens is that if a transaction is returned as failed on a credit or debit card and you do have the funds to pay, it's a pending transaction. The money is basically in limbo for a few days but it hasn't been taken and will be refunded. This can take up to 5 working days though.

Not on ATM transactions when the ATM said no dice and the money still came straight out of the account.

Oh, I'm not sure about ATM's now but I'd imagine its the same.

Dundrum is back to normal now anyway regarding ATMs and the credit card machines (well in the store I work anyway although our phones are still down.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,255 ✭✭✭✭Esoteric_

Visa debit card is being accepted on my credit card machine in work all day since 10am.

I would laugh at everyone because I get paid in cash, but my boss never arrived with my bloody wages :(

Just checked my open24 again, The amounts that had been deducted from my account earlier incorrectly have been rectified so hopefully it's all sorted now!
