    Hi Guys,

I am having trouble finding a supplier of an outside 6" vent for a cooker hood.

As I live in a windy area I heed one with both gravity flaps & a cowel cover.

Anyone have any advice where to get one.

    Many Thanks

    Tanka

If you haven't bored a big hole in the wall yet and you are fitting a modern cooker hood you might not need to vent it out the wall. You can check to see if you can use a Charcoal Filter within your cooker hood. Charcoal filter recycles the steam and outputs fresh air whilst holding the Grease from the Steam inside. (Thats the theory anyway) But as we all know you cannot catch all the steam via your cooker hood. The Charcoal Filter will need replacing every 12 months or so. But they are only pennies about €5.00 - €10.00 each. Much better than having a big hole in the wall where eventually you will get draughts. If you need any more help PM me.

Nope, if the cooker is on an external wall, then vent outside. Its the only way to do it. Surprised you cannot find one. I'm sure any decent builder providers will stock a suitable unit.

EDIT: Is it something like this you are after ?

    Guys,

    Thanks for the replies.

Sorry I did not make my first post clear enough.

The cooker hood was already installed approx. 1 year ago - but with 4" (100mm) pipe. We had a lot of noise problems as the fan was quite powerful (Siemens) - I was advised that the pipe should be 6" to accept the volume of air.

I then changed the piping to 6" & this helped quite a bit with noise - but as you can imagine I am still reducing to the existing 4" vent.

I now am looking for just a 6" vent plate for the outside wall.

My problem is that I live in a very windy area - west Donegal, so I need a 6" wall plate that has the "gravity flaps" to stop blowback & I would like the extra protection of a cowel cover for it.

I can find these in 4" but not in 6"

    Any advice

    Many Thanks

    Tanka

Have the same problem as you and this is what you are looking for...

    http://www.kitchenappliancecentre.co.uk/ducting-vent-cowled-with-gravity-flap-6/150mm-brown.html

Now, i didnt buy from them... its just a link to show you want you want... it also comes in other colours. Dont be looking in the likes of woodies or homebase for these sorts of vents.

Try a decent builders merchant like chadwicks and you will get them there. they are about €10.

Perfect in windy locations and only slight banging from its flap in a high wind.

    Hope this helps.

Right. I don't know about a 6" vent because I have never seen one but if you can buy one that's aesthetically pleasing a 6" check valve will do the exact same job.

try alu-casting.com. I think they make 6 inch vent.

Has a spigot flap been inserted previously in the existing hole? They can be very noisy themselves. You won't be using the fan at all on a windy evening and then you hear a bang from the spigot being drawn and then whacking closed. Not ideal.

    Hi Guys,

    Many thanks for the replies.

The link supplied by Access is exactly what I am looking for.

My current problem is not the noise coming back or the gravity flap making noise in the wind.

It's actually the noise from the fan itself when running - the current 4" flap is not capable of taking the volume of air away -hence the need for the 6"

Should anyone see any of these please let me know.

    many Thanks
