So my Sony Vaio is working fine-ish.

The fan tends to be on a lot so I've turned off Aero etc, and trying to get my processes down as much as possible. Regularly clean it out paying particular attention to carefully removing caked dust from the fan.

It there any other bug tips for reducing the operating temperature? I remember when it was new this never happened...I'm constantly removing old programmes I dont use but its still using quite a lot of memory and CPU at idle. Or is that normal?

    Any tips welcome!

Mmm I don't know if it's a good tip or not, but you could buy a cooling device or a support to help it "breathe"... like one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Laptop-Support-Cooling-Devices/lm/R2V222M5ZV7OAL

You could replace the thermal paste on the CPU heatsink. Use good quality stuff though. I did that on my own machine a month or so ago and the temperatures reduced a fair bit. Thermal paste only has a certain useful life.
