Moving house - vinyl won't fit in letterbox?

As it says on the tin - I buy pretty regularly and a neighbour used take any LPs I was ordering but we're moving house soon and looks like the letterbox ain't wide enough. I don't want to have to go to the nearest post office (which isin't that near) every time I buy something.

I was thinking of trying to buy a large but cheap enough postbox. Any other suggestions? What do ye do?

    Sound!

    http://www.parcelmotel.com/

Just read the FAQ's on the site and it explains everything.

Works great if you're buying from the UK too as the shipping fees are considerably lower. First 2 times you use are free too.

Cheers, I've been using Parcel Motel for a few months, 'tis the dogs danglies, just ordered via them this morning for some Juno goodies!

I just don't want to be paying an extra 3.50 every time I decide to buy something, say a single LP.

Was thinking of trying to buy a large postbox on Amazon like this

will the postman try post a postbox through your postbox?
but seriously i have this problem too its very annoying. A bigger postbox probably would save a lot of hassle.
I never even heard of parcel motel before, looks like a great idea

Bigger postbox is probably your best bet. Either that or try suss if you've any sound neighbours who'd be willing to accept some of your post.

Can you not just get it sent to work?

I'm just wondering where you lads buy from? I normally use Traktor Scratch, but I want to start buying a few vinyls. I like the Detroit House stuff and not much of it is available digitally.

All City in Dublin. And Hardwax, Clone, Phonica, Rubadub, Redeyerecords and Juno would be the main online stores I'd use. And Discogs too, mostly for 2nd hand stuff.

Well that is definitely not going to work. Of course a record would be damaged or cracked if you tried to shove one into that, and as Real Life says, this post box isn't going to fit through your letterbox in the first place either.

Besides which, the cost of it is more than the cost of 13 individual Parcel Motel deliveries. Your records won't get damaged in their PO box lockers either, but they definitely would if someone actually did try to shove them into that post box you linked to.

Also consider making more purchases in bulk and you'd bring down the additional cost per item.

Juno and discogs are good online stores for vinyl. If you want digital stuff beatport should have most of the stuff youre looking for

I always thought All City was a hip hop store. Would they stock much US house/techno?

I've just been on Juno. It seems a good bit cheeper than the last time I was on it. Although I used to buy LPs ,so perhaps that's why it seems cheaper. Either way it's decent value. And the 'deep house' section actually has deep house in it, rather than over polished Euro-****. Impressed.

They wouldn't have a massive collection or anything but they get in quality records.......bass, house, techno, hip hop, funk

They have a mailing list - just drop them a mail and ask them to add you info@all-cityrecords.com. They can order stuff in for you too. And they're sound lads too, very helpful.

Earwiggle have a mail list too. Mostly techno, but house as well earwiggle@gmail.com

A few of the UK sites offer free shipping if you spend over £x. So with parcelmotel it can work out quite cheap. And I think hardwax cap their shipping at €15 (or something like that) regardless of how many records you buy.

Another site I forgot to mention was decks.de.........it used to be cheap and they used to offer free shipping and discounts if you spent over €100 but I don't think they offer those anymore. They carry good stock though and they have a reservation feature which is quite cool.

This guy on discogs has deadly records and offers free shipping on orders over €100. http://www.discogs.com/seller/Angel-Records?ev=wh

Here's a good 'un - Ordered a record a few months ago, a week later it arrives and I find it completely snapped in two by the postman, so it would fit in one of those U.S Postal letter boxes..(the ones with the little flag!).

That's what I get for living in the sticks of Tipperary.
