    hi all,

i have a ford focus 02. yesterday i hit a pothole pretty hard. at times along the motor way i can hear a loud cracking noise coming from the back wheel. also when i brake at lower speeds eg coming into a roundabout i hear the noise again and also feel a shudder on the brake pedal itself.

any advice regarding this problem would be very appreciated

You cannot drive the car like that. Get it looked at straight away.

ya i will be getting it looked at tomorrow but just wanted an idea of what it might be, how much to fix and how long to fix it.

It's impossible to say without looking at the car. All anyone can tell you for sure is not to drive it.

Yes, hitting a motorway with that car is absolute lunacy.

Sounds like something has snapped in there - possibly a retaining bolt, possibly some suspension component. You could be looking at a few hundred notes, maybe less, maybe more. Couldn't really say from here.

Ye were right. I shouldn't have brought car on the motorway. No one hurt though thank god.

its pot hole luck how much it costs
It might only be buckled wheel had that happen to me went to junk yard and bought second hand one refitted tyre cost me €25 for everything if I recall

When I bought car I had choice metal or alloy heels chose good old metal as alloys need to match each other hard to find second hand

Hit a low brick wall in shopping centre bent another wheel rim but had bought a extra spare wheel in the junk yard in case

Sometimes the shock absorber hits the end stoppers and knocks it all out of place not too expensive for that ~ €50 and labour 1 hour
Worse is if it damages the shock so that is ~€80 to €120 and labour 1 hour

There are sway bars which can be bent depending sometimes can be straightened out so just one hour labour but sway bars are not often too expensive

TBH its hard to know if the system is damaged until you take it for burn on the ,motor way as minor damage can run for years at slow speeds with no signs to tell you it broken Its often only until you go faster you detect the issues
As always once your sure its not correct then slow down leave the motor way and stop driving ASAP it until it is fixed

However sometimes it wreck in there and then your looking a thousands . Less likely as that usually means the car comes to complete stop just after the pothole or makes itself very evident at slow speeds

Are you actually for real ? Everything you post is just a completely off the wall 2 page stream of no sense

You are actually seriously suggesting that this person should floor it on a motorway full of other cars to check if his (potential) braking issue is serious or not

You genuinely believe this is lucid way to approach this problem?

It sounds like either a brake shoe lining has become detached from the brake shoe itself or else one of the retaining clips holding the brake shoes in place has come off. Both are common on the Focus.

So whats your solution every time you hit some small pot hole go to the garage and payfor some mechanic ic to give it the full 123 checks
Thats fine for you if your rich but mere mortals in over taxed Irl cant afford to do that.

Many years ago I hit a pot hole and it made the wheel slightly egg shaped.
It was only when i got to over 60 mph on the cabbage way it would judder .I went to garage and changed out the wheel and problem was sorted .The small egg shaped wheel was so small looking at the wheel you never know it wasn't round without using rulers and trained eyes
I figure even if i Had gone to garage it is unlikely the garage would spot the very small egg shaped effect in that wheel.

when i hit pot holes i get out give it guick look over for the basics drive at slow speeds to see if there is issues and only when the issues pop up do i go to garge. I hit pot holes at least3 year and only one pot hole in every twenty causes any problems and most of those are immediate noticeable the wheel and tires is ruined and it change the wheel on the side of the road time
