ah. now you go changing your requirements
What sort of rim? Carbon or Alu? If alu, I'd get a stanley blade and gently get under the decal with it. Use something like the mrs's nail poilish remover to get rid of the gunk left behind...

Can you not heat them with a hair dryer and use tar remover for cars to remove the glue residue. It's how I remove car badges.

Remove the rim from the decal, not the decal from the rim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

Stick a rim-coloured decal over the existing decals.

if you commute in winter on them you'll never see the decals btw...

was thinking nail varnish remover/acetone or will it damage the rim.

Get autoglym tar remover. It's fine on paint and clearcoat. Acetone can be a little aggressive as can petrol and white spirits.

Adjust the brakes so that the pads rub against the decals when you brake. Then go for a long cycle.

14 posts to get the 'buy a new bike post'. I am deeply dissappointed.

If you can be arsed, this guy recommends a hairdryer, a credit card and some ethanol:

Will you recal after you dedecal?

Acetone will not damage the rim, carbon or not.

I removed the decals on my navigators using a hairdryer and card/finger nail. Then wiped (half cos I'm lazy) the glue off using acetone. All is fine. I had to do it letter by letter, so hopefully yours will come off easier. If any are problematic, some acetone under once you get to lift the first section should do it.

Yes. Need to be euro about this and having matching wheel.

Is this not catastrophic advice for removing decals from carbon rims?

They peeled off handy enough with a little coaxing of hot water water to get the start and just gently peeled them off

The new decals that arrived this morn were black with white writing and would have went on over the existing decals so I must apologise for dissing what I believed to be a joking response turned out to be in fact almost a good response.

Fairly sure he was planning to have some ethanol on board while doing it ;)

Needed to replace a rim on a set of williams system 30 rims. Rather then waiting on god knows how long for a replacement from the US I got a Pro Lite rim which seems to an exact match.
So brought the rear wheel with the replacement rim down to a back street bike shop in Finglas who informed me that he has his own rims which seemed to be a pretty good fit.
Sooo he replaced the rear rim and told him that I would get the front wheel redone with one of his rims as I couldnt get a Pro LIte 'replacement' for the front.
so now I have a bastard version of Willams hubs with a pro lite rear rim and some sort of front rim but with Pro Lite decals.

Bet your sorry you asked now.
