No sign of a stage-specific thread for Stage 5?

Today's stage is largely flat. There is a Cat. 4 climb near the end and then an uphill section leading into the town of Matera. That uphill section ends with 4.8km to go, and then it’s straight with a bit of descending before the last kilometre kicks up with 2.8% all the way to the finish line. The Cat. 4 climb will thin out the peloton as it's 4.5km long with an average gradient of 5.6%. Cav will find this climb tough, so I expect to see OPQS try and take control, and set a pace that Cav can handle. If he makes it to the flamme rouge in the peloton, he'll be hard to stop. More than likely though, Orica-GreenEdge and Argos-Shimano will set a blistering pace and Cav will be dropped. Degenkolb and Matt Goss like this type of finish.

Torrential rain at the finish at the moment. Scary pics of rivers of rain flowing over electrics for the stage finish...!

A note on screen says "Delayed due to rain", but AFAIK, the race is progressing elsewhere with the hope that the rain stops and the water drains away by the time the stage finishes. Nonetheless, yet another curved ball may be about to be thrown into Giro2013

I know all too well how Cav is feeling :( even the climbers made that Montescaglioso climb look difficult.

missed that did cav get dropped or have a mechanical or what?

    Almost dropped.
A lot of riders out the back with Cav representing the very back, about 59" down from the front of the bunch.
He had a couple of team mates back to help, I can't see him taking the stage after that though. Although sometimes he still pulls it out of nowhere.

    Aaaand now he's dropped.

Wiggins dropped out of the top 10 on GC???

A lot of riders seem to go down spontaneously on that corner - possibly as a result of hitting the brakes after hearing the smash up ahead, but I think the zebra crossing markings in the wet have a lot to answer for.
